Wow, what killer aps for the holiday season, VZW has pulled no punches this past year at becoming the most customer friendly, best carrier out there. With the new holiday phone lineup adding to their already strong lineup, their new variable ETF, 30 day test drive, new plans rolling out with verizon landline for free landline calling and rolling out the ability to change your plans without extending your contract...VZW is definately taking off the gloves and pointing at AT & T and saying "I want your spot". I'm definately excited to see what the future holds.

Yeah... the iPhone and the Dobson acquisition will delay ATT losing the #1 overall spot, but it will happen inevitably. They've already lost #1 in postpaid customers. 😲

"the ability to change your plans without extending your contract.."
I love it, verizon takes something away from us a few years ago such as above statement, and now that they give it back to us, they are the best, the innovators in the cell phone market, they are taking their gloves off..LOL
Now maybe they will give us free holiday minutes back, that would be earth shattering, a big blow to the other carriers.
as far as free landline calling, that is pretty much worthless unless you have verizon as your home phone. If they want that to be something big, then offer to all their customers, you can call your home phone for free, that would be something to brag about, although a lot of carriers already give their customers that, the...

The Variable ETF is a big deal in the wireless industry. If you know anything about the industry you would know that contract, fees and other things associated with them have been causing controversy for years, and making a variable ETF is a HUGE step for a wireless carrier. So after years of the Wireless Giants, and countless complaints to the FCC, a carrier is actually making an attempt to rectify the situation. You should give credit where credit is due, or just go away. Thank you.

Not wrong that VZW will be #1 in time but wrong that they care any more.
If they really wanted to be #1, they would expand their pre-paid product and get some MVNOs or perhaps create a sub-brand.
Fortunately for us, the big whigs at VZW realized that's foolish and that they should keep focusing on making their best product, the post-paid product even better.
VZW is already #1 in retail post-paid.... the only segment they care about. at&t can keep doing prepaid and MVNOs as much as they want.

Perhaps I'm missing something in what you're getting at but as far as a Verizon Sub Brand what would consider AMP'd and Alltell? If I'm not mistaken Alltell uses Verizon towers so I believe that qualifies as an MVNO and AMP'd is in the same spot. I am 99.5% positive that AMP'd is a VZW sub brand. (And please don't take that the wrong way, I'm not trying to sound like an ass, but I know reading it in text sounds a lot different than face to face) Regardless I agree with first posted thread, VZW is catching up and I think the Voyager is going to be the number 1 competitor for the Iphone. Lets face it, the Iphone is actually a really nice phone, I expected it to be garbage but its the best thing they have going for them. Now we have somet...

As for Amp'd they were their own company, which is now bankrupt...no more. Alltel is a separate company altogether. They use
VZW towers just like we use their's to fill in gaps in our coverage.
...
Amp'd was an MVNO but they're gone now.
Alltel is another company that serves areas that VZW does not. VZW roams off of them in those areas as well.
...
I guess you have missed the internal memos that we have been getting for over a year now.. VZW has considered itself #1 since it passed Cingular in retail subscribers. (that isnt just retail post paid, that is total retail subscribers.. aka, not MVNOs)
...
my point exactly
they don't care about the MVNO and Pre-paid numbers that at&t has
...
AT&T has a 30 day policy, Unity plans with landline, and changing your plans without extending contract. So does that mean your catching up?
And can someone enlighten me about AT&Ts MNVOs?

If you ever take a look at a carriers results for a quarter you will see that they give stats with Net adds and then one of the other stats is net retail adds. Retail adds are the people using the carrier directly, the other adds are the people using the carrier through a third party(MVNO). Such as when a person gets a Tracphone it is probably running on AT&T, but the person using it doesnt know that, they think they have Tracphone.
So for example in 4th quarter 06 AT&T had IIRC 1.5 mil net adds, but 750k of those were from Tracphone, so are not direct AT&T customers. That was a quarter that AT&T fans made a big deal about "winning" because VZW had 1.4mil net adds.. from VZW standpoint they kicked AT&T's butt because over 1.3mil of those...

Not 750k just from Tracfone but from all the MVNOs combined. For example, Speakout Wireless (7-11 Wireless) is a pre-paid product that has $25 cards that don't expire for a year which is great for those people who just stuff their phones in the glove compartment. That uses at&t as well.
Oh yeah and to break it down even further, that 750k includes at&t pre-paid as well so you're not getting those quality customers that stay.

Yea... But, cool phones are only cool if they work.. If they drop calls... Lock up.. and, are screwed by the VZW UI... Forget it..
