Is it bad for a phone to....?
And to charge it every night?
While the battery wont develope a memory, it still only has about 300 charging cycles in it. The best thing for the battery is to only charge it when it goes almost dead (1 bar of battery).

The 300 charging cycles refers to 300 complete discharge/charge cycles, if you do a partial discharge/charge cycle it counts a partial cycle. For LiIon it is far better to partially discharge the battery and then recharge it then to run it down all the way, it will last longer.
How do I know this? I have developed microprocessor based fuel gauges for LiIon battery packs that go into laptops and other devices that use parallel/serial strings of LiIon cells.

It depends on what phone you have, i have charged my phones every night even when its at like full battery, and my sister always waits until the phone is almost dead to charge it and she has had to buy a batterie already and about to buy another one, and i have not bought a different batterie yet
I have owned 2 Samsung phones (a650 & a930), and I have usually left the phone on when it's charging. I usually charge my phone when the battery is nearly dead too. I have never had to replace my batteries the entire time I've owned both phone, since I only charge them then the battery is nearly dead. I do occasionally charge it with the phone off, so the phone will have a reboot when I go to use it ...
