Question
I have a family share plan with 3 phones. the primary phone, mine, is a LG V phone. the second is a LG en-V and the third is...I forget but it doesn't matter. I have the insurance plan on my V phone. I want the new en-V but I dont want to pay the regular retail price cuz I have another year to upgrade. I was thinking about trading phones with the person using the second line (the en-V). Someone at verizon told me that if i buy a new phone, my insurance would cover the new phone no matter which phone it is and that trading phones between family members is no problem too. so what im thinking about doing is to trade phones with the person using the second line, then later (maybe a month) call verzion and say I "LOST" my phone ;). the...

You know this is illegal right? If you're gonna do it, do it on your own and don't discuss this in a public forum for everyone to see.

Not only is that insurance fraud, you have to file a police report for this "lost" phone. Which means that ESN will be locked out, and you'd just be back down to one enV.

No, a police report is no longer required.

Though the insurance company *MAY NOT* require a police report any more, Asurion periodically reports the "LOST" esn/MEID's to VZW. We add them to this fun thing called an national deny list. This could happen after you've activated your "lost" env on another line. Either way, suddenly SWITCH Authroization = NO. Suddenly, that phone fails to authenticate. There's not a thing you can do about it.

As everyone else has pointed out, this is illegal. There's a message in the Asurion automated system that Asurion does take legal action against thoese engaged in defrauding an insurance company. It's not worth it to get a $10,000 fine and some time in a federal prision to get a $50 phone... and a refurbished one at that.

Wait for your upgrad...

Verizon blacklists all esn/meid #'s that are reported as lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized charges, among other things. All that effort on your part would go to waste.

duh its illegal! all you guys are narcs! that wasnt the question! thanks for all the info though. this helped the most "Verizon blacklists all esn/meid #'s that are reported as lost or stolen to prevent unauthorized charges, among other things. All that effort on your part would go to waste.".
All Im sayin is that the commitment should be to the customer and not the customer to the carrier. Take residential Internet connections for example...comcast doesnt lock you into a 2 year agreement! I dont think cell phone companies should have any contracts.

If you want a system where phones are $150 to $200 more expensive than now, I call BS.

No problem, then pay $350 for the enV nstead of commitng insurance fraud. BTW if you report it stolen and tehy put it in the lost stolen file it will come up as such when you go to reactivate it and wouldn't look to good on your part
