I have a job that requires me to go to people's homes. Sometimes the directions are less than good. Has anyone had much experience with vz navigator?

Other than the fee of 9.99 per month, do you incur any other extra expenses for using it? Reading the literature on their website it seems like they are charging if you change routes or something like that.

Nope, as of 7/1 you don't get charged airtime for using navigator. It used to use minutes when starting and recalculating your route.

Nope, thats it, It is awesome, no extra charges, perfect directions (everytime I have used it), very user friendly.

I couldnt ask for more in a GPS device.

wfine81,

Please realize that VZNavigator IS NOT using the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system. It is triangulating your position using the three nearest CDMA cellular towers. No satellites - no GPS.

f38urry,

Sorry to let you know, but VZ uses aGPS - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGPS. So VZNavigator IS using the Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) system along with CDMA triangulation, making it a more faster and accurate system. Definitely worth one of the most useful wireless application out!

VZ NAV is great. It is GPS +. That plus is it is a Yellow Pages lookup.

In VA and want to look up Suzies seafood? Try Magellan or any other GPS. Try drilling Travel > Food & Entertainment > Dining > Restaurants > Seafood, etc. and you won't find it.

Not with VZ NAV. You will be within, say 12.1 miles and be guided all of the way.

I can confirm what the others have said below. VZNav uses GPS when it can and trilaterates (google that word, it's not the same as triangulate) off of cell towers when it can't get good satellite data. After it gets the route, it has to use GPS to track itself, otherwise the refresh speed would be painfully slow. On internal GPS, the chipset can update like every second or two. On working with an AGPS server to get cell site trilateration, think 15 seconds or so. Maybe 20-25 depending on bottlenecks in the call flow.

In all fairness, VZ isn't the only company with this kind of app. Sprextel has one as well via Trimble I think and I wouldn't be surprised if Alltel has one as well. AT&T & T-mob don't have to have GPS chips in the pho...

This feature is great and is worth the 10 a month. Or if you need it in a pinch it can be used for just 3 bucks a day.

While sprint does offer a simuliar app, I hear its no where near as good or as detailed (ie listing of business and residential areas)

Verizon's training also says that it uses GPS and CDMA triangulation.

I just had to recertify that training this morning... 🙄

vznave kicks a$$ if you need an app liek that. You can type in pizza and it will pull all the pizza places in the local area, give you the number, map it, or navigate you there and it is extrememly acurate. It is also updated through veruizon so you will not need to worry about your directions being outdated down the road. Plus they just changed it this month so it no longer uses minutes when downloading your directions!!
Try it out, you will not be disapointed

I couldn't be more pleased. In the last three days at work I've used it on most of my calls and it has led me straight to each one. It leads me straight to the house and tells me when I get there.

Some of the places I knew how to get to, but not easily. This gets me where I'm going.
