VZW says my LG VX8300 won't support a card reader! True??
I then went to the Apple Store and bought a card reader with which I was told I could transfer pix from the card to my iMac without having to use the carrier supported Picture Page, which would charge me for my transfers.
Now I get an email from a Verizon person which is pasted below this text. My question to you is: Is that Verizon tech correct? Is it true that the LG VX8300 will not support my card reader? Because if this is true, then I will return the LG and activate my old Nokia that I was using. -Lorna
The letter from Verizon to me is below:

Real computer?? What have you been doing, using your time-travel DeLorean to live in the year 1997? Macs are awesome now. ๐

Nah, Im waiting for the new Apple IIe to come out, it should kick butt. ๐
By the way, my iMac is a great computer and did a great job with my Nokia BlueTooth earbud in that it received BlueTooth file transfer beautifully. In that way I transferred all my pix without having to go through Verizon's Picture Page. That/this Nokia is the only VZW phone that didn't require a card reader to do such a...

This is the letter sent by VZW support:
Dear Lorna,
My name is Xxxxx, and I am happy to assist you regarding transferring your pictures.
I do apologize for any misinformation given to you at the Apple Store, however you would not be able to use a card reader to transfer your photo gallery.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to assist you today. We appreciate your business and thank you for using Verizon Wireless. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this e-mail.
Sincerely,
"If I take pictures and have them stored in the memory card, and then if I put the memory card in the card reader which is connected to my iMac, will there be a file transfer?"
The reason that I had to ask this in the first place is not that I didn't want to see for myself, but because after I set my vx8300 to save all pix to my 1 gig memory card, and then after I took a picture, and after I tried to see that picture in the memory card, I got a message saying that there was nothing stored in the memory card.
I will take another picture and see if this time the picture will be saved, as it ought to be, to the memory card. Then I will see if the pix can be transferr...

Please know that I am not THAT familiar with cell phones although I did have one before this 8300. However, with that Nokia cell phone with Verizon, I was able to transfer files via BlueTooth ........ the only cell phone at Verizon that could do that with BlueTooth. Thus, I have no experience at all fiddling with memory or cards etc.

What I did do was to follow the instructions for how to get all of my pix, sounds, and videos to be saved to the 1 gig memory card. If that means, "formatting the card," then yes, I did. But if it means something else, then No.

You must first put the card in the phone, which will format it and put folders on it such as: my pix, my flix, my music etc.
After formatting, then put the files in the right folders etc. (pix in my pix folder)
If you just put the files on the card before formatting, this is your problem.
The card reader has nothing to do with the phone, and is just used to have your CPU read the card.

That; and if you had anything on your prior rto formatting it, it'll be lost.

Yes, I did this. It's a tiny little card and I did insert it into the correct port.
There was no point at which I was told to PUT FOLDERS INTO IT, but I did follow a procedure in which I opted to have my pictures, sounds, etc saved to the CARD rather than to the phone's internal memory. I presume that this constitutes FORMATTING THE CARD.

VZW people are prolly not allowed to say whether or not a card reader will work or how to make it work, since Verizon wants to make money off of you having to send your pics to the Pix Page or whatever or whatever the scam is to get your pics transferred while VZW charges their 'toll'.
I too had a Nokia 6256, which was the only VZW phone that supported free file transfers through Bluetooth, so I didn't have to futz with this silliness either. I will have to when I get my new phone in a coupla weeks, though. ๐ก

The LG 8700 is possibility, if the speakerphone is any good. My NE2 makes this phone cheaper than I thought it would be. The LG 8600 got knocked off my list due to its speakerphone not being any good. And I wouldn't want a RAZR, everyone has one, including my girlfriend.
Some more phones are going to hit in July, might take a look at those. I'll likely avoid any newly-released Motorolas though, as Motos are pretty infamous for having lots of bugs and problems with their phones early on. โน๏ธ

(1) I have been able to compare the Nokia 6256 with my now vx8300 for reception and clarity of call while in the Ralph's Market. The Nokia made calls clearly from any part of the store. The LG was able to connect in some places but not in other places, and when I was able to connect, there was some static.
For this test I did not use my BlueTooth earbud, because I wanted to limit the variables to only the phones.
(2) The vx8300 has a superior speakerphone. It is not only loud, but also clear (many are loud but muddy). I was not aware that the vx8300 cannot use the speakerphone with the lid closed! If so, bah, I don't like that..... but it is still a great speakerphone.

The Nokia 6256 is the trimode. All that means it that it works with analog signals as well as digital. Sometimes, out in the boondocks, the only signal you'll be able to get is analog. I've had this happen to me a couple of times.
Some carriers may be shutting off their analog networks in February 2008 (because the government will stop mandating that the carriers keep ...

You have to have a number assigned to a cellphone for it to be recognized by the network and active.
So, whatever phone you are using, that is the only phone that you can make a call from (except 911).
This makes the GSM system seem so much easier: Just switch the SIM card from one cell phone to another without having to alert AT&T/T-Mobile that you have done so.

Meh. Transferring your number online isn't that hard... especially after you've done it once.
Have a happy 4th. ๐
A person who travels for a living uses his phone a lot while on the road. He has GSM with either T-Mobile or T&T. He has two phones with him all the time.
One phone goes bad while he is on the road. If he had a CDMA phone, he'd need to access his website. Gee. But if he has a GSM phone, all he needs to do is switch the SIM card from phone A to phone B.
Even for me, it is easier just to switch SIM cards since accessing my website requires me going to my computer, which might not be turned on already, etc.
However, Verizon gets me good reception, so the extra movement is worth it. :-)
Yay USA.

Thank you so very much! I will do as you say and probably take my Nokia 6256i to repair the phone book feature.
Happy Independence Day!

Your phone doesnt support a card reader because the phone has no way to use a card reader. Your phone supports a memory card and you need to make sure your card reader supports the memory card for your phone.
You need to start by formating the memory card in the phone, if you formated it from the computer you need to reformat in from the phone( and I am not sure how to do that). After the card is formated you put it in the reader and put the reader into the computer. Your computer should find it as an external storage device. When you look at the folder set up on the card that was formated by the phone there will be folders for ...

I copied all of your post and will follow what you say. I have not been able to get to playing with my new phone because of other tasks ........ but I am becoming more and more sure that I CAN transfer files from my memory card to my card reader to my iMac.
Thank you very much.
