Samsung A990 or LG VX8300?

I have read several posts and several articles on the internet singing the praises of LG VX8300. I just read a bunch of reviews of it here on Phone Scoop and am impressed. Many people in 2006 called it the best phone that VZW has.

Question 1: How does the LG VX8300 compare with the Samsung SCH A990 for just the telephone end of it? (It is not fair to compare the cameras!) The most important thing about a phone is its ability to make a call and hold on to the signal, as well as voice quality. Everything else is secondary for me.

How do the speakerphones compare in both?
How does the BlueTooth sound compare in both?

Question 2: How is the Phone Book feature and how about Voice Dialing with it? With the Samsung A990 you just say the ...

If you dont care about the other stuff...just get the 8300. I used it for 8 months and loved it! Its a great phone, its durable, and Im pretty sure you will be happy with it. I don't think its worth the extra money for the 990 unless you take a ton of camera phone pics. The 990 is basically the same phone as the 8300...but with a better camera and a higher price tag.

Just my two cents...good luck with ur choice

Dear CWCanty — Thank you for those two cents. They put a lot in perspective. 🙂 Actually I don't mind paying the money for the A990, but the 8300 looks smaller and handier than the A990. Smaller is better. 🙂

I have both phones, the 990 is a suprising small phone, its pretty thin and doesnt have an external antenna, Like Chris said they are very similiar phones.

My big hang up on the Samsung (and I know its silly but its important for me) is that you cant add words to the T( dictionary, even words like "dont" wont work because there it is actually spelled "don't" so that is a huge irritation to me, and one reson I wont buy a Samsung again.

However the 8300 is an excellent phone that is by far the best all around phone verizon has out.

I don't know if you have had experience with the Samsung i730, but I know with mine I pick up a strong signal everywhere I go. I went somewhere with some friends. I had my i730, and they had a Q, V3m, and V3i. I was the only one with service at 2 bars. I was even online for 15 minutes.

How does the 8300 compare against the i730?

I had the i730 for about a week and couldnt stand it, not because there was anything wrong with it, I just didnt like making phone calls on a PDA, I like the standard "phone" type better.

I lived in an area with very good reception so I never noticed a difference between the 8300 and i730, so I really dont have enough experience between the two to make a valid assumption.

I think the only annoying thing about making calls on the PDA is that when you use Contacts, you have to end the application in the Memory section.

It will be hard for me to switch to a new device in 2 years. This is the perfect device.

Chris, I forgot to ask: Why did you use the LG VX8300 for only 8 months, though?
