Phones & Plan Coming In November? Phone Recs?

I have a friend who's switching from (i.e. running like hell from) AT&TW, and I've steered her towards Verizon, who apparently has the best coverage in the city she lives in (SF). She'll be switching in November, when her contract with AT&TW is up (as she puts it: "YAY!!").

The question is, what phones should I steer her towards? My short list includes the Audiovox 9900, Samsung 670, and LG VX-6100, but is there anything else in the pipeline that's good and coming out in late October or November? Her requirements are good battery life (she talks A LOT), good reception and audio quality (things she never had w/ATTW), and some durability (she's a bit klutzy and will drop things). Also, computers HATE her (as she puts it), so an easy-to-use ...

Uhmm, those plans suck actually... get a $59.99 America's Choice plan (800 peak minutes, UNLIMITED night and weekend and UNLIMITED VZW to VZW calling (mobile-to-mobile and or in-network depending on how you want to say it) and it includes nationwide long distance... those $39.99 "block of minutes, period" kind of suck, because you're limited to 2000 total minutes, whether you call another VZW phone or not...

only reason we have that "1000 anytime for $39.99" plan is to rub salt in T-mobile's wounds. 🙂

Good point, but to give you more info: she makes a lot of her calls during peak times, and doesn't know a ton of ppl who have Verizon... maybe a couple.

The peak stuff I infer from her 'I hosed myself' sob story that happened one month on her ATTW plan... she went somewhat bananas and used 1400 peak minutes and 900 off-peak on an 800 peak minute plan... can you say 'Ouch?'.

She's says she's reined in her talking since being spanked by that huge bill, but still she's gonna do a lot of peak simply because she gets off work early (schoolteacher). The VZW unlimited night & wkend stuff is good, but not apparently not awesome because it doesn't start 'till 9pm.

She might want to check out the local choice plans for your area, if she doesn't travel much. I have a local choice (Hawaii) and pay only 49.99/month for 1000 anytime minutes, free LD, free nights & weekends, free in-netwk...and so far, I'm one happy camper 🙂

You can find it in pretty much any Verizon Local Digital Choice brochure... only it won't be in the big table at the top but instead'll be tucked off to the side, at the bottom of the Optional Services section.

The basic 1000 for $39.99 plan is there, and just above it are options to add things like 1K Night & Weekend minutes for $10, or 500 IN calling minutes for $5.

Hope that helps.
