Text messaging with verizon user interface

I recently noticed that the user interface is now the same on all verizon phones(except one). The text messaging interface is also the same on all verizon phones. I didn't care that much until I realized the VZW predictive text input method is called "word", this is short for "T9 word."

I was previously using a Motorola with itap, and 3 things I liked about itap were

1) it automatically updated the dictionary with frequently used words, slang, places, etc

2) it would autocomplete words for me with a simple press of the up arrow.

3) it gave a long list of similar words that I could choose from using the left/right directional pad.

A quick look at the VZW text messaging interface revealed that it was using the old T9 next k...

I like big buttons and the autocompletion made things much faster. Autocompletion is also useful for these qwerty phones like the U740 or vx9800. I checked the vx9800(or newer version) in the store today for auto-completion and it didn't seem to use it, but autocompletion may not be the default setting. Typing the word "tomorrow" required all 8 keystrokes on the qwerty, where on the number pad itap it requires something like 5 or 6.

Qwerty is nice but I'd still prefer a regular full size number pad with an efficient T9 or itap.

The Env is ugly I could never understand how anyone could see any appeal factor there.

Querty phones are great for some. Maybe I should check into one more closely, but I felt the 9900 was large.

Does anyone know about this VZW text message interface? If you don't know, you will when you get your 2 yr upgrade. When did VZW start this universal UI?

I checked all the phones in the store today, I remember them all being the same UI. Regarding text message capabilities this is dissapointing, and if the EnV does not have autocompletion that is also kind of silly because I thought I read somewhere that the factory one does.

Universal UI started 2 years ago. The Moto E815 (awesome phone BTW) was the last Moto to carry the Moto UI. I got one when it came out, the original one is still going strong. Too bad there's no comparable model out as I'm due soon for an upgrade.

I would've bought it if they still had it. How come Alltel has it and not VZW?

I hated itap...it frickin sucks!

You know what all of these phones really need...

THREADED TEST MESSAGES (similar to how gmail categorizes emails). I just got a treo 650, mainly for this reason and it is so nice, I dont know if I could go back to the regular text interface of the VZN UI.

With the enormous boom in texting, its about time these phone companies look at more creative ways to sort and categorize text messages.

Oh, and by the way verizon. 50 is not enough to have in an inbox. thats just ridiculous. and I dont need a fricking reminder saying "80% full" "82% full"...how annoying is that?

sorry for the mini rant...but I really think this is an area that needs to be addressed and can very easily be changed with a ...

itap is completely ridiculous! It's pretty much the main reason why I got rid of my e815 (besides the crappy moto UI) I could never get it to work right.

u kiddin?!?! itap ruled! I had the V710 and loved this. Alot because the dynamic memory. My 8300 wouldn't "remember" words. I had to switch to abc from t9 for certain words. In the Moto I would change from abc to word only once...in the future it remembered it...and would do the autocomplete.

But nothing compares to my Treo for texting! OMG I love it!

all my t9 phones remember words, my lg 8000 and even my 9800 for the rare times i'd use the outside to text from.

one time i demoed it to a kid who was curious. I typed in pooponastick with the keyboard and then used t9 to type it in immediately after
