Treo or Blackberry for USCC??

EngravEER

Longtime USCC customer here from Martinsburg, WV... just registered so this is my first post to the forum.

Does anyone have info on USCC releasing a new PDA phone in the coming months? After doing an initial search on this forum, I've seen some talk that a PDA device is in testing with a possible release later this year. Can anyone offer additional details? (i.e. Palm or Blackberry platform, possible release time frame, etc.)

I think the PDA/data platform is one area where USCC's lag behind the competition is considerable. Seems they're working to "catch-up" though as they have on other wireless offerings.

As a longtime Palm OS fan I'm being subjective, but with thousands of Palm apps currently available, I hope the higher-ups at US...

Actually, we WILL be getting a Blackberry device, probably sometime this summer. They are working on pricing, etc right now.

i dont think a pda for us cellular would be worth it to us cellular or the maker. not enough buyers, it would attract a few but not enough to make the cost worth it, plus the 7100 is a cingular phone... but im sure that model # was an honest mistake.

there are 3 different models of the 7100. and from what I have heard, it will be a version of the 7100, and not a palm type device.

Alejandro --

C'mon man. "They don't need no readers."?? How 'bout any readers? Sorry to bust your hump, but if you're going to take the stereotypical, backhanded swipe at my state and its good people, the least you could do is to sound grammatically correct about it. And for the love of all that is holy, PLEASE spell the name of the dam# state correctly! And while I'm at it, don't forget that you need an apostrophe in your contractions as well. 😉

Yeah, mikemedic seems upset with USCC but I'm rather in his camp on this one. USCC's PDA phone offerings are...

Thanks for the advice Alejandro.
I am use to the dig at my state.
You really need to go back to English class .
I don't recall this being a site to make cracks at West Virginia but it shows your level .

I was frustrated with USCC cause they kept giving me the run around and they are correct when saying uscc is the strongest cdma carrier in the state. I had 4 accounts with uscc and had to drop one as I needed a PDA phone.

By the way Sprint offers free roaming on other cdma networks and I have used uscc towers on my Sprint account with no extra charge.

The same goes for USC, there have been several times when we pick up sprint towers at no charge. The messed up avox 8500's can pick up a sprint tower when they malfunction and read no service constantly.

Sounds like an upset customer, or former customer. Keep your sprint phone! I had US Cellular before I switched to sprint and it was so bad I had to go back to US Cellular. Sprint just doesn't work for everyone. Just as US Cellular doesn't work for everyone. Sorry to hear USCC didn't work for you. Why so bitter...

I am not bitter just frustrated.
I still have 3 uscc accounts, daughters and wife love uscc. I ahve one in college in a small town and uscc is great there. My wife travels doing MRI and uscc is the only cell company that works for her travels.

I am just mad about the fact that every other cell company has a pda phone except uscc.

Wait I believe they have the outdated "boat anchor"
Kyocera still right?

The bad part is that this phone in Palm based also so why doesn't uscc pick up the Treo?

For a company sorely lacking in its PDA phone offerings, I'm surprised USCC would opt for the Blackberry over a Palm and/or PocketPC device.

I've never used a BB, but folks who own one generally acknowledge that it's great for e-mail (especially "push" e-mail using the BB Enterprise Server software) but somewhat lacking in other PDA smartphone features. Palm OS phones on the other hand do a more than adequate job with e-mail, have additional capabilities (i.e. camera, GPS, etc.) and offer thousands of third-party software apps.

I certainly could see introducing BOTH a Blackberry and Palm OS/Pocket PC device (especially when your current offerings are so limited), but making the BB your "flagship" PDA phone to the exclusion of a Palm OS...
