How do you think the new name change will affect cingular? How does the name change sit with you? would you be more inclined to sign up with AT$T?

Not a verizon user I know. But people like my dad won't sign up with AT&T. He for some reason hates the AT&T name. Even when I said they really arn't the same company he said no way! He has never had a cell phone but since he has home service with Bell south soon to be AT&T he is going to get a cell phone just to not have AT&T. He is looking at sprint and verizon. And regardless of how good that company could be is useless info for people like that. I don't understand it myself but their are many people like that!

I think there's a lot more people like your dad out there than AT&T realizes. I know of many, most of which are business customers. They are considering VOIP options for their w...

We were considering moving to Cingular because of their improvement in coverage in our area, but with the name change that will never happen. My wife had so many problems with ATT, both landline and the old ATT wireless, she will never let it happen.
...
🤣 Sounds like my ex, we had ATT back in the analog only days when they required that you dial your PIN and then (or before?) the number you were dialing. That use to trip her up some much she developed an irrational hatred of anything ATT. If she is now on Cingular, the day they change she would probably chop her phone into pieces and send it back as payment with her bill, telling what they can do with it.
...
as I said people have a strong hatred for a name. If Microsoft changed their name to AT&T people would rush out to by a mac or try Linux!!
...
Speak of the Devil!
My ex called, "Where is my check!"
Me "Today is a federal holiday, no mail"
👿 "#@%#!@##"
While she was still carryin on I asked her about her cell company, she says it is Cingular. I tell her about it becoming ATT, goes ballistic, yelling at me like it is my fault.
🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Falling to the floor

Ditto, chging to AT&T would not be good, JMO! I had a real bad experience way back with long distance thru AT&T and vowed I would never in MY LIFE buy their products, the sad part was I had them for about 10 yrs prior , loved em.. Never again..That being said I have friends with Cing/AT&T fine with me, don't complain but I would not.. (Bell South is turning to AT&T???, guess my landline will be going too!) Probably time to get rid of it anyway..
...
I think that it will hurt them, I remember back when Cingy bought ATT and A LOT of customers hated it because their service went down and they would always say "well since Cingy bought ATT it has been horrible". I think that to Joe Customer they will think that is happening again, even though it is just a simple name change and not a network integration it will still have a negative effect on customers.
And if I was a Cingular dealer I would be PISSSSSSED about having to rebrand my stores, that is no not cheap
...
if i were a dealer i would just slap a sticker of at and t on everything! HA HA that would still suck that is not cheap! I remember when cellular one got bought by alltel in my area and stores went out of business it was so expensive to rebrand it!
...
I don't think so. Marketing will do their thing, you know..."the fewest dropped names...er, I mean calls" "more bars in more places" etc...
After a year, it will all be forgotten. Lets see, Verizon was Bell Atlantic Mobile, PrimeCo, etc...T-Moble was Voicestream, in our market Cingular was SunCom, and the lists of name changes goes on.
In the years ahead, I forsee 2 CDMA carriers (Verizon & Sprint) and 2 GSM carriers (Cingular/AT&T and T-Moblie).
Anyway, my prediction powers aren't perfect and there is always gonna be change going on in this industry. In the mean time, I'll just keep celling the "carrier-de-jour" whatever the name is so I can keep getting that check every month!
...
the older generation don't forget the bad times. That is why sprint is not as strong as they can be. And AT&T even though they are not the old AT&T will be hurt by this. SBC should have kept their name. Verizon made a very smart move and created theirs and got rid of MCI when they bought them! Or verizon would have been hurt by that name!
...
Yeah, we never forget sonny...
What were you saying???
...
Lol its funny because even with new technology and improvements, and a name change only, people are basically dumb deep down. I am glad I just went to Cingular even if they are changing their name. I have the 8525, and this thing is unGodly cool. But I am thinking they are going to start doing bundles with Wireless service internet and cable, and you could possibly get huge discounts.
...
I'm not sure how it will affect cingular, I really don't think it will have a negative impact as some think. I like the AT&T name better, but I'm very happy with verizon and wouldn't consider a change.
...
I agree. I used both. I dislike AT&T because they sold out to Cingular. AT&T's reception was so-so, Cingular was even worse. Verizon is the best reception BAR-NONE!
...
there you go making baseless claims. It all depends on were you live. I doubt people in west texas are saying verizon is best.
...
Baseless?! What do you mean! I went by expecience. Have you used them?
...
yes I have. And I am not saying they aren't good. Just saying it depends on were you live what you want from a cell phone. I live in an area verizon just penetrated. Their service is not great. YET. But it just isn't true to say they are the best. If you get what I mean! They may be best for you were you live and what you want. Know what I mean?
...
I agree. Different strokes for diffrerent folks.
...
I had AT&T TDMA and I was in love with AT&T Wireless! When I read the new brief on Phone Scoop today my first instinct was to go back to "AT&T". I came back to Earth when I remembered its still crappy Cingular with a new name. Plus, unless the new ownership alters prices, I'm not gonna pay $39.99 voice + $39.99 PDA data with a Treo 680! I'm going to go with Sprint and get a 700p.
...
wow I just thought. You got the people like that. They loved AT&T and relies its not the AT&T they had and won't go that way. Then the ones thay hate the name and won't go that way. Double whammie!
...
They can call it whatever they want still sounds inferior call quality wise to me...everytime I try my friends GSM phones they sound like crap to me. I do like the name better tho.

yeah i know. what the heck is a Cingular? did the company have a think tank of people saying random nonsense words until they found one that sounded cool?? 🙄 🤣 😎
...
The idea was a play on the word "singular." The focus of the company was to express the individual, hence their first slogan "Fits you best."
...
Maybe I am missing your point in the other thread. If advance users pick GSM that would make it sound like they are better but you and I both agree on GSM sounds like crap. I could be missing something here!
...
i like the idea of SIM cards though. I could have my Treo for everday use, an old Nokia for rough stuff, and a KRZR K1 for fun!

how do you say Treo? I've heard tree-oh, tray-oh, and tray-oo
i saw tray-oh, but i am not sure 😕

I feel the same way. GSM sounds like you in a tin can. I don't care what the carrier is. Also all CDMA sounds the same to me. Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, US Cell!

It'll help 'em a lil' bit, not much. Mainly because AT&T has more name recognition than Cingular, even despite all the Cingy ads that are running day and night. AT&T is a brand name thats been around forever, everyone knows it.
How does the name change sit with you?
Don't matter much to me since I still won't sign up with 'em, but AT&T does sound better than Cingular. Cingular always sounded like a nonsense word.
Or as a friend o' mine used to say, Cingular is Swahili for 'bad reception'. 😁
would you be more inclined to sign up with AT$T?

I detest AT&T as a telephone company.
When they buy MCI, I will switch to Vonage.
If they buy Verizon, who I have for my cell, I will do without.

I agree. At&t or cingular, whoever the hell they are, sucks! Verizon better not sell out to anyone!

actually I hope they sell out to Vodafone
global plans anyone?? 😲

I would be more inclined to sign up with AT&T if they still offered the TDMA service but with the benefits of GSM phones (cameras, video, MP3, internet, etc...).

Possibly, but i still dig Verizon.
