if you can't trust your kid enough and have to get this device to prohibit them from talking/texting in the car, maybe you shouldn't let them drive at all. tell the kids not to talk/text and if they respect you enough, they won't. no need for this device if you and your kids communicate well. just a thought.

This is why kids should pay for their own cellphone service.

Even if kids pay for their own cell phone service they will still talk in the car. And caesar6591, have you seen the kids running around now? In a perfect world telling your kids to not talk in the car would be ok. I would say 1 maybe 2% of kids actually follow this law.

THe problem is that the kids know if something happens to their car, phone, etc. they might get yelled at, but for most of them, their parents will just buy them another one.

If they had to buy the new car, cellphone, etc, one would hope that they would think about how they are using it.

This technology will be quickly hacked for kids to get around it anyway.

As you said Caesar, "...IF' you and your kids communicate well." I would venture to say kids/parents, today, don't communicate as well as they should and those kids feel, "What Mon/Dad don't know, won't hurt em".

And of course those over 18 never never text, talk and drive? Just ask the Gov. of NJ.

My beef with this is that there already exists a software tool that can silence the phone by monitoring the speed via GPS. Better because it doesn't have a physical lock, so kids don't need to bring the phone home to unlock.

If you're going to put that physical lock on it, just take away the phone.
