Finally a worthy replacement for my Nokia 6682. 😈 I've been interested in a slider and wanted the original N95 but it had no support for U.S. 3G networks, more specifically at&t. I will be getting this phone....

I'm curious, are you going to WAIT for AT&T to launch it, or are you actually going to pay $750 for an unlocked one???

I just can't allow myself to pay that much, I really can't, I paid $500 for my Sharp V903, and as far as I'm concerned, that's plenty enough!!!

If I had a choice I would purchase it from at&t once it becomes available. I'm not counting on them to pick it up though. I'll start saving for the unlock version and hope they decide to get it. Trust me, I wouldn't mind signing another contract to get a discount.

You might think I'm naive for saying this, but I do think AT&T will pick it up, I'm just extremely questionable about it being BEFORE the end of year!

I also think they'll base whether, or when they'll pick it up on how the N75 sells, see how people like the N-Series handsets.

But U.S. carriers need to learn, that people are willing to pay for a feature packed phone! I'm willing to pay, and so are you!

I hear the AT&T Tilt is going to have a 3 megapixel autofocus camera, so FINALLY there are a few quality cameraphones coming out on the network. I can care less about pin-hole lens cameraphones, I want something I can USE!!!

Well I hope they will. I'm ready for a new phone and this would be perfect. Let's hope they do pick it up that it makes a clean speedy run through their testing.

Yeah, I'm ready for a new handset too. I haven't been under contract since Oct. of '05, and my current handset, I've had for 16 months.

Them and they're stupid handset, the damn phone is quad band, and dual band HSDPA, it's GOOD ENOUGH, it'll work!!!

Heck, I've been using an unlocked tri-band phone on Cingular's network, and it works plenty fine!!!

But personally, heck yes I'm interested in the N95, but I'm also really interested in MobileTv, and supposedly, AT&T is launching in the 4th Qtr.

I mean real MobileTv, that's based off of Qualcomm's MediaFlo technology, the kind that is instant, and doesn't require buffering!!!

The kind where you can change channels, and it's instant. That kind. I read an article on the net, perhaps PhoneScoop, quite a few months back, that AT&T chose MediaFlo for it's MobileTv, and that they're going to launch it in the 4th Qtr.

So, do you work for them?

Ah, good job Mr. Inside Man!!!

Well keep me posted on both the N95, and what the latest is on the launch of MobileTv, I'd very much like to know, I haven't been under contract since Oct. of '05 specifically because they dont't have anything good enough for me, I've been using an unlocked handset for 16 months.

So, I'm holding out, and waiting for MobileTv.
Please keep me posted, Thanks a lot!

Well, I don't believe in contracts, I think a business should EARN business, not tie you down to it.

But because I have an unlocked phone, mine is the Sharp V903, I don't have MediaNet, nor can I send/recieve pix, I can send/recieve txt msgs, just not pix.

I don't have a problem with contracts, if the carrier is going to subsidize the cost of the phone. They have to make their profits somewhere. As long as they give consumers a window of time to try out the service and maintain that same level of service throughout the life of the contract, I think it makes absolute business sense. The alternative to contracts would be consumers jumping from carrier to carrier, meaning none of them could establish any kind of stability and the whole system would just collapse into anarchy.

The reason I want unlocked phones is because I want to be able to use the phone the way that it was intended and not have to deal with any crippling features OR with the carrier putting their own firmware on it. Just ...

With reguards to consumers jumping to carrier to carrier, and you saying that would be anarchy, do you realize that the wireless industry, and the satelite tv industry are the ONLY ones that require contracts?????

landline local telephone does not, cable companies don't also.

Now I know or at least I was told that you could use MediaNet on unlocked handsets however you could not install software provided by ATT on our phone like MobiTV. I do know of people who have unlocked handsets that are able to send sms, mms, and use built in web browse but could not use things like mobitv. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

Well, I've heard that also of unlocked Nokia handsets because they get the network settings off of the cell tower. And I think it's that easy because ATT carries Nokia handsets, whereas my unlocked handset is the Sharp V903, I can't do MMS's, or use the web browser, but I can do txt msgs. If you know anything I don't, please let me know, I'd very much like to know. Thanks.

This is true. Many of the applications you can download and install from a carrier's offerings require a certificate to be installed on the phone. This will not be the case with an unbranded, unlocked phone. I found this out from experience with an unbranded, unlocked Nokia 6682 that I won directly from Nokia. I was able to use the web, MMS, and SMS, but forget about any downloads that come from the carrier's deck. Got some nice apps elsewhere like Handango though.

And what do wireless carriers and satellite TV providers have in common? They are the only ones of that list expected to give out expensive pieces of electronic equipment (cell phones and satellite dishes) for free.

Do you think cable companies would have a different philosophy if 90% of their customers expected them to also give them plasma TVs for 75% off the wholesale price?

Totally agree. I seriously doubt there would be as many cell phone subcribers as there are if every had to pony up full price for their phone purchase because there were no subsidies from the carriers. If you don't like being in a contract that is fine, but don't whine that you can't afford the phone you don't want a contract with. I can recall spending major $$$ on satellite equipment before they starting offering deals with contracts and such. That low "out the door" price comes at a cost to the carrier and they simply recover over the period of the contract. It's Business 101, not Charity 101 that drives the model.

Ill take one unlocked. Now that ive had an unlocked unbranded phone i wont go back to Branded. I really dont know about Nokia unbranded phones so i cant say you will be able to download mms settings if buying unbranded . SE however has a site where you put in your phone number and it sends all AT&T settings to your phone through sms. So i have no problem sending or receiving pics but no mobitv. I dont want mobitv as with the memory card i can put whatever videos i want on the phone.

To each his own i say. Some people like branded others unbranded. Keep in mind that buying unbranded you will not have AT&T'S speacial features like mobitv or most likely video share. But on the other hand The phone will work as intended from nokia wit...

All 3rd edition S60 phones can automatically detect MMS settings from the SIM card.

And I agree, I don't ever plan on going back to carrier branded phones.

This is sad but I actually work in an AT&T dealer store and I would probably go unlocked. I came to this decision after finding out that the AT&T version of the N75 is the only version that isn't A2DP stereo bluetooth compatible. I've been trying to do some research into a way to fix it but have come up with nothing so far.

Yeah the unlocked one might not have some features like MobiTV but anything it can't do is probably something I don't use that much anyhow.
