Nokia Will Use Dolby Surround Sound, Starting With N8

Dolby today announced a collaboration with Nokia that will bring Dolby's surround sound and high definition audio technology to select Nokia handsets, starting with the Nokia N8. The Nokia N8 will use Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound when the device is attached via HDMI to a compatible home theater system.

Have we really reached this point?

The point in which we're going to be plugging PHONES into surround sound speaker systems and our tv's? I think this is absurd -_-
Why not? If it is also a high fidelity music and video player why not get the best picture and sound? With lots of flash storage and removable storage we can take our entertainment with us.

Absurd wouldn't be the right adjective. A lot of things are going to happen with mobile phones eventually. In the not too distant future we'll be beaming movies onto our walls from our mobile phones. So, don't be too surprised what kinds of uses we'll...
