Symbian Pinning Application Hopes on 'Horizon'
Jul 16, 2009, 12:45 PM by Eric M. Zeman
Symbian recently announced Horizon, its own platform for publishing mobile applications. Symbian is calling Horizon a 'code once, publish to many' syndication service. Developers will submit their apps or app ideas to Symbian. Symbian will pick the best apps, polish them, then publish them to whichever apps stores are appropriate for that particular app. This will let developers write an application once, and Symbian will take over the burden of publishing them, charging for them, managing meta-data for them and so on. Symbian said that it is completely open to submissions for the Symbian^1 platform, but also noted it will take whatever apps it can get. Symbian hopes to automate many of the processes involved in publishing applications in the near future to make it even easier.
