New SIM Card Add-On Unlocks Phones

A company called 24/7 Mobile Solutions announced a product called SIMable today. SIMable is a very thin chip that you attach to a standard SIM card. When the two chips are inserted into a locked mobile phone, SIMable makes the phone behave as if it were unlocked, meaning it can be used on different networks. SIMable does not alter the phone's software, nor does it void manufacturer warranties. Phones will be returned to their locked state as soon as the card is removed. Any phone unlocked with the SIMable product will retain all its working functions, including access to 3G networks.

iDEN phones

It looks like this will only work for GSM phones. Does anyone know if this will work on iDEN phones? ๐Ÿคจ
Has the tree fallen in the desert?
What network would you want to move an IDEN phone to?

And the question we all are asking is...

Does it work on the iPhone?
Don't see any reason why it wouldn't, but Apple is a different beast in so many respects, wouldn't be surprising if they somehow disallowed this as well.
Who cares? Unlocking the iPhone is as simple as downloading ZiPhone software and connecting your iPhone to your PC.

its nice except

isn't this the same as sim cloning? which has been available for awhile but there are certain legality issues that go along with it, the legal issue is, its illegal!

will it be allowed?

Now will the providers know if the customers are using this? Will it even make it to the U.S.?
I think they will be able to tell when the customers are using it, but I think it will be allowed in the near future.

Pure specualation, of course.

The carrier will know as soon as you take your phone in for any warranty issue (see link below). Once they see that you have "modified" your SIM to work with this device, all bets are off and you will be buying a new SIM. I think this is a great idea ...

Seen it before.

Something very similar has been around for a few months at least already. Google: Alpha X-SIM2
By the way you have to cut a small hole in your sim card to use either product, some people may have a problem with this. For $20 I may try one someday though.

Eh...

It's a good idea but I would still unlock or buy an unlocked phone for software purposes.

Very 007'ish.....

I like that idea...it's smart. However I wish they would just unlock phones all together world wide. That way the competition is a lot more fierce. Like with T-Mobile you have to wait 90 days before you can unlock it. It should be after the 14 day trial period when you're allowed to unlock the device. I mean why not, the subscriber is now locked into the contract regardless. If they sell those chips at local stores like Walmart I will definently be buying one. ๐Ÿ™‚
If it works and I can get one. I will indeed.
