Vodafone CEO Calls for Industry to Choose LTE

In comments made at the CTIA wireless convention in Las Vegas, Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin said the entire wireless industry should standardize on Long Term Evolution technology. He believes the wireless industry would be able to be swifter in delivering a true PC internet experience if it settled on one broadband standard rather than competing technologies. In the U.S., both AT&T and Verizon Wireless have committed to LTE as their 4G network technology. Sprint has chosen WiMax for its 4G technology. T-Mobile and other carries have yet to announce plans for 4G networks.

Read between the lines

Verizon wants to own 100% of VW. Vodafone wants to have complete control over a wireless company in the US. So Vodafone wants one of the smaller carriers embrace LTE so that they can buy them. Vodafone does not want to go through a multiple technology merger, so this is the perfect way. Just a thought....makes more sense then saying Sprint sucks and then some replies not they don't Verizon sucks and back and forth. Its really sad.
Definitely not one to paint any carrier in a golden light, it just drives me crazy that there are so many people in this forum that tout Verizon Wireless as THE TRUTH, when its just another big contract player, dressed in red. nothing better, cost and...

Good

It really should help a lot, but I believe anyone on GSM was probably more than likely going to go this route anyways.

The fact that Sprint is going with WiMax means nothing... by 2010 Sprint will probably be bankrupt anyways. Lol, stupid sprint... oh well.

Either way, I'm really glad that Verizon has chosen this, thats a big step in the right direction, and AT&T made the right (though obvious for them) choice as well. Now we just need T-Mobile to announce what they will go with... lol If they can ever even get 3G going lol.
lol bankrupt. Ha EddieT will be bankrupt before sprint.

Dont be silly. 43 million people paying on average $40/month. $1,720,000,000 in monthly recurring charges (that's one billion).

But it would be nice to have them all use LTE for the sake of having a TRUE nationwide data package. They could all wor...

You're glad about Verizon. That's nice. I wonder if Sprint is carrying about 31.1 billion dollars in debt like Verizon is??

Well looks like we have a fan boy. Maybe you should check your facts before making false claims. 🙄
Bankrupt? I guess not. They even managed to lose $29 billion last year plus lawsuit's from left and right and they're still breathing. $29 billion that's worth another network.

Wow

Sounds like this could suck for sprint... i mean; a world leader in communication calling out to the industry like that? WiMax may never happen?
doubt it... wimax is still gunna be around
...
sounds like verizon wont be able to keep up with sprint and they are only hoping sprint will go to the LTE 700. Wi max will happen and soon, before the end of the year is what they are pushing for. You have to keep in mind wimax will only be availab...
