Ultra or Note?
Feb 9, 2022, 1:06 PM
in the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra forum

Sure looks like to me they ended the S Ultra series and gave that name to the Note as the new Ultra. The S22 Ultra does not even have S series styling.

in the Article: Samsung Foldables Include New Option to Extend Battery Lifespan forum

I am glad they included this and I would hope that more phone makers follow the same with the feature. The iPhone still shows the 100% charge so users don't get confused but the fold literally stops at 85%. This makes the battery life feel very short and honestly, the Fold 3 battery life is just 'okay'.

in the Article: Google Focuses on NFC for its Titan Security Keys forum

I did buy the original Titan kit although it took forever it felt for Google to get the NFC piece working. The Bluetooth piece worked but is clunky to use. I moved over to Yubikey a while ago to get USB C and NFC together on a key. Google is kind of late for this change.

I fear that nothing good can come from this. Once the government tries to step in the make things "fair", everybody loses. Hopefully this gets negotiated down to a few concessions from Apple & Google that won't wreck what is in place. That may be the strategy anyways.

in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 forum

It's usually best to take on a new product when it reaches its third generation and most of the bugs are worked out. This one looks to be the best yet by far. Time to take a serious look at foldables.

in the Apple iPhone 12 Pro forum

I've heard some negative comments about this new generation but I see some nice improvements overall with one exception: screen size. I wish they had left it at 5.8" instead of making it bigger.

I prefer smaller screens these days as well. The trend seems to be going towards larger screens, by in large. Bigger phones used to be very expensive but now the cheaper phones are getting fairly large as well with the narrow bezels and this phone proves that.

Oct 7, 2020, 2:49 PM
in the Article: Google Details 5G Pixels forum

The 865 requires a separate 5G modem which was considered less battery efficient and would require a more expensive board design and bigger battery. Google and other phone makers decided to go with the 765 because its 5G modem is built in.

I have been pleasantly surprised by the 4a and it performs much better than the previous 3a. Certainly, the price is rock bottom for a device as good as this. If you are looking for better performance, the just announced 4a 5G is $150 more and has a bigger screen and better CPU.

It seems to me that having a number of individual apps the track this is counter-productive. If this tracking is going to work reliably, it'll need to be a part of the Smartphone OS that cannot be turned off. It may come down to this being mandated at some point. The other issue is that these types of apps are good in theory, however I don't think or know that something like this has been shown to be effective on ...

Such a strange phone but something I would expect from LG. They tend to create these unicorns in the smartphone segment which I think is very creative in some ways. Other than some dedicated followers, I don't expect the Wing to sell very well.

I had the original Pixel and loved it. I really did not like the Pixel 2 and sent it back. I now have a Pixel 4a and I think that Google has really found its way on how to design and price phones.

Interesting that Amazon would jump into this arena. I did sign up for early access but I see that their partner, Ubisoft is only listed as "Coming Soon". Playing games on iOS through the Safari browser is a neat trick but I wonder how long before Apple addresses this and limits it or shuts it down through a policy change. Clearly, Amazon thought this through. Big concern is the library of games that will be available, and I don't mean ...

This must be some kind of joke and insult to fans. This phone doesn't look anything like any phone from The Matrix and looks to be an opportunistic name drop to rip off fans of the movie.

in the Article: Review: Apple iPhone X forum

I read and hear a lot of commentary about, "The Notch" on the new iPhone X and both sides have their opinions if they like it or not. The main reason Apple made that notch is for branding identity. It makes a statement even from across the room. There's no mistaking if somebody is using Apple's latest flagship phone in a sea of phones because that notch is unmistakable. Simple as that. It's a rather brilliant bit of marketing and I ...

in the Razer Phone forum

I have been mulling over pulling the trigger on a premium phone like the Note 8 but when I heard about this phone I had to take a look. Distribution will be through Razer and Microsoft's retail stores so at least I can pick one up easily enough here in the U.S. and it seems to have the proper wireless bands in place that should work fine with TMO and at&t. Big unknowns are what the daily use will be like. ...

You'd think (or hope) that when you drop $800 to $1000+ on a phone that there would be few compromises to have to deal with but that just is not the case lately. Pick a brand, it does not matter, there's always a piece that falls short and there's no guarantee that next years model will be an improvement. This is disappointing.

So I finally received my OP5 and couldn't wait to get it setup. I did the firmware and restored my apps and data to it. I've almost always opted for the "flagship" branded phones, mainly due to their better performance, camera and battery life. With the phone industry maturing rapidly, I have really started considering some of the alternate brands now over my high priced choices so far. After buying an Gear S2 and using it for a few days I returned it and bought the Gear S3 instead and what a difference. Samsung may have intended the S2 and S3 to coexist as separate products but I can easily say that after a few days of using the S3 there really is no comparison when it comes to performance and especially battery life. While the two share a common core of functionality that is very similar, the ...

The 928 is essentially the Verizon version of the 920 from at&t. That said, the 928 has the advantage of being updated with newer or more refined tech since the 920 came out last year. I anxious to see the reviews of the 928 to know how it fares against the 920 in real world use.

I tried this before and it was awful, at least for driving which is what was what I needed. Now with this update, it seems to work well and turns driving mode on and off with your BT headset. Something Samsung still can't figure out. I recommend this so far but I am still testing it.

Me neither, with my Nokia 822. It's been a solid performer with no random reboots. I'm guessing most of the issues are with the 920. That's been the biggest seller as the flagship WP8 device. I still think the 822 has a better screen IMO.

I just picked the 822 up on Thursday from Verizon. If iPhone and Android had a child, it would be Windows Phone. Simply the best experience os any mobile OS in my experience. I can honestly say that this is the best Windows 8 phone out there. It may not be the flagship of the line, but I still prefer its size, power and flexibility. First off, the unit is very comforatble to pocket and hold onto during calls. The removeable ...

I've been running around trying to figure the release date. One of the Verizon reps showed me the phone yesterday but could not sell them and had no idea when the date was. I may be in the minority but I am actually looking forward to this over the HTC 8X with Verizon. I've seen the 8X and 820 at at@t and I like this series more. I'm not crazy about the bright colors and lack of tactile buttons with the 8X. The fact that this has a memory card slot and removeable battery makes this a winner for me.

I'm currently running a Sprint Galaxy SII and love it. This phone does not seem remarkably different so far but it does have some advanced features that seem cool. I'm not crazy about the color choices for this phone but I'll reserve judgement until I can hold one in my hand. If I decide I can't live without it, I can give my SII to my wife.

HP has never seen much success in the mobile phone arena so they bought Palm, but it really is too late. It was a mistake to announce the Pre 2 AND Pre 3 at the same time. This will kill their Pre 2 sales which will affect the Pre 3 launch too. The obvious truth is that this phone should have come out 2 years ago. With Android and Apple's dominance in the market and Microsoft's big push, I predict that ...

All of these updates sound great but begs the question if we should just wait until the end of the year to buy a Windows Phone. If you get one now, you might regret it because of the possibility of hardware and OS improvements leaving us in the dust without support. Probably not but it's happened with every other mobile OS.

I'm glad to finally get some official announcement on when we can get this update. I hope the carriers don't delay it any longer. We really need to see MS step up these updates to fix the WP7 bugs. I've heard that MS had it ready weeks ago but the carriers delayed the roll out. I thought that WP7 was designed to be updated without carrier delays.
