I wonder how long it would take the average person to open and close this device that many times? If you only did so 100 times per day, that’d translate to about 5 ½ years. I guess if that were the case, then you’d be due an upgrade by then anyway.

Exactly. Motorola actually shared that info in my briefing. They've collected data from existing razr users (that opted in), and found that the average was 40 flips/day, while "power users" flipped 100 times/day. Not many people flipped their razr more often than that. So yes, it's rated for over five years of heavy use.

I am guessing that the rating is an estimate and that the warranty does not extend to that number if it breaks any sooner.

Right. I don't think it's warranteed. But they did build a robot to actually test that many flips in the lab.
