Reception during Freeway Driving
Jun 29, 2007, 7:06 PM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

Has anyone experienced choppy reception while driving on freeways, i.e. at speeds of 65 mph or greater? I've been told that my words and sentences are broken up and often have to repeat things I say. I'm just wondering if it's my particular phone or all VX8700s.

I read a review on the following web site that states that the VX8700 has Bluetooth version 1.2 on it. Almost all AT&T phones have version 2.0 on them. Verizon only has a couple of PDA phones with 2.0. The rest are 1.1 and 1.2, which is disappointing. I have a 2.0 headset and would like to experience the best performance of Bluetooth available by pairing the headset with a phone with 2.0 as well. ...

Tethering via BT
Jun 10, 2007, 7:14 PM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

I've been trying to tether the VX8700 using a BT connection to my laptop (mostly for when I travel on occasion) and have had nothing but problems with it going dormant and then disconnecting, then redialing every couple of minutes. I followed instructions on HowardForums, read a ton of threads for a couple of hours and still have no solution. If I ping google.com from a [DOS] command prompt window, it stays connected but seems unnecessary and ...

I should clarify because the link doesn't take you right to it: Go to the second of three pages and click on Backup Assistant.

Re: LG VX8700 price with a 1 year contract?
Apr 16, 2007, 10:47 AM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

Arouth - It's not available if you try to purchase online yourself but it is available if you talk with a person at Verizon who knows what they're doing or asks someone else there who does if they don't. I dialed 611 and went to "other" options, asked that person and she found out that it is available for 1-year contracts. So do it through a live phone contact, then you'll get the $229 price. Good ...

Re: LG VX8700 price with a 1 year contract?

in the LG VX-8700 forum

I believe the reason that there's a $100 difference (or at least this is what I was told over the phone when talking to an online rep) is that the $50 rebate applies only to 2-year contracts. That adds another $50 onto the 1-year contract price. I think I'll call again, though, and see if another rep will give me the rebate on a 1-year contract.

VX-8600 or VX-8700 ?
Apr 12, 2007, 1:18 AM
in the LG VX-8700 forum

Pros: The 8700 has BT 2.0 (stereo) and a 2 megapixel camera, while the 8600 has BT 1.1 and a 1 megapixel camera. Cons: The 8700 weighs a bit more than the 8600 and has a shorter projected battery life. Are there any other differences that I should consider in choosing between the two phones? The reviews for the 8600 are consistently good while the 8700 hasn't been out long enough to have consistent reviews.

Thanks, Loran - I was mixed up and thought you were talking about the HS-21W which has a flexible ear bud and a short cord to the receiver which you have to clip on your shirt or jacket near your ear. I think you're right about sticking with the same brand because I've tried both Motorola and Plantronics and they both gave a lot of static. The connection must be faulty. So you don't notice any static or ...

Thanks, Lorna - I thought of getting that one but the cord and receiver kind of turns me off because you have two devices to deal with, plus a cord. Might as well use a corded headset, or? Sell me more on it, please. Also, do you notice any static at all?

Best BT Headset for the 6256i?
Dec 16, 2005, 2:21 AM
in the Nokia 6255i / 6256i forum

I've tried Motorola (H700) and Plantronics (320 and 640) and none of these BT headsets were worth keeping due to static and poor sound quality. Does anyone have a suggestion insofar as a reliable brand and model which works well with the 6256i?

Thanks, rlowell. I went to Sean's link you posted and wrote him an email. He wrote a great review of the phone and knows a lot about its features. In the meantime, I was able to connect to Quick 2 Net, which is quite a bit slower than the Express Network/National Access. It gives me hope, though. At least I know that my BT and phone are working together. I reconnected my old LG ...

Sorry, rlowell - just reread your previous posts and answered my own questions about your phone and service provider. I hope you get the 6256i and try it on Verizon - am so curious to know if it's even possible to tether via BT. I'll try a cable connection this next week to further troubleshoot. Sorry for redundant info in my postings. I've been posting in Howardforums, too, and can't keep it all straight. ...

rlowell - I'm still trying to tether my Nokia 6236i via BT. Your info is interesting and gives me hope, however, I don't have a T608 ... which phone is this? Is it through Verizon? Thanks, rlowell - I'm still struggling. I uninstalled PC Suite 6.6 and the Kensington, then installed (or tried to install) a new Belkin BT adapter. The installation was problematic and I can't even open My Bluetooth Places. I uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times, rebooting each time and still it's messed up. I tried tech support but they're only open 9-4 M-F. I managed to get a BT modem installed (by right-clicking on the BT ...

rlowell - I'm not sure if the DUN profile is supported by the 6256 or not. How would I know this? I'm new to BT and so am trying to figure out if I should buy a DKU-2 cable and try connecting that way in order to single out the connection as an obstacle. I've tried tech support with Kensington (BT adapter manufacturer), Nokia and Verizon to see if it's the BT adapter, the phone or ...

Tethering via BT

Has anyone been successful in tethering the 6256 on Verizon's 1x network using a BT adapter on a notebook? I've been trying but haven't been successful, I suspect because PC Suite 6.6 doesn't really support this model. Maybe 6.7 will, but who knows when that will come out. Can anyone help me out, please? I've plugged in the user name and password -- [phonenumber]@vzw3g.com and vzw, respectively -- and have dialed #777. It always ...

Re: Available on eBay

It's being offered for $29.99 with NEW (only) Verizon service plans on various web sites, like the one listed in the message below this one for Radio Shack. So I would imagine that folks are signing up for new plans, getting the phone for a great deal, then re-selling it at 500% profit and changing their plan to use some other phone they have. Or they're finding a way to get out of the service plan deal.

I got the phone and also got a headset with a Nokia plug and the volume is fine, although it has to be maxed out. The only disappointment for me is that the phone will not work as a modem. You can buy a USB cable and use it to transfer address books, pics and tones (w/ PC Suite software), but that's it. I have to return it due to this factor. Otherwise it would ...

The instructions by Hillzy look great but I have one problem. I can't find the phone on BestBuy.com and neither can the folks who answer their 800 number. What zip code needs to be entered? Or maybe you could post a link. I'm in California, so maybe it's a lost cause here.

Headset adaptor & volume

Do any of you who own this phone use the headset adaptor that comes with it so that you don't have to purchase a headset with a Nokia plug and can plug in your 2.5 mm plug? If so, do you find that the volume is incredibly low, even when it's set to max on the phone? Do any of you have a headset with a Nokia plug? If so, do you get good volume through the headset?

Re: Recall

I owned the phone for about 10 minutes on the first day it was available where I live but returned it right away due to the headset jack adaptor and very poor (low) volume. The adaptor (Nokia to 2.5 mm) is bulky and awkward, but the worst was that I could barely hear anything with my headset when the volume was cranked to the max. I even tried a store clerk's headset and he had the same ...
