Re: LEATHER CASE
I also have the 8000 with leather case, but I haven't found it a problem. All the things you mention are true, but they don't annoy me.
Have you found any good alternatives?
LEATHER CASE
Verizon shows a leather case on their website. Go to "Select Additional Accessories" and click on "Leather Case."

I'm not sure if this is actually the pouch you're talking about or a dedicated leather case for the 970.
Check it out!

Re: I've Decided Once and For All!!
Calm down! Go get a slice of pizza and relax!
But most importantly, don't cut off your nose to spite your face!
Be resigned to the fact that ALL carriers have lousy CUSTOMER service, but Verizon has the best CELLULAR service!!

Re: GET-IT-NOW...
Yes, if you want an ongoing service you'll have to pay for it.
However, the original question was how to transfer a phonebook from an old phone to a new phone.
So, I repeat, for a ONE-TIME fee of $1.99, you can do it, then cancel the service after completing the transfer! Simple!!!

You can get the actual Samsung (not Verizon) manual here...

...yeah, a bunch of money by forcing you to pay extra for the features they've intentionally crippled!

Re: Vx8000 data trasfer problem
First thing... while the phone is powered on (without the AC adapter), remove the battery for 3 minutes. Then replace the battery and turn on the phone again.
Most times that will clear the problem.
Then, do a *228 over-the-air update.
Good luck!

I have it. It's great... flawless!!
Re: SCH-A950 weight vs. VX-8100 weight
To me there is no perceptible difference in weight.
The 950 does feel smaller in the hand. I think this is so because it lacks an external antenna.
The buttons and dial on the front seem cheap and flimsy to me.
The 8100 just feels "healthier" and more rugged.. it's rock solid!
I happen to like the red color of the 950, but for me, that's about where it ends... it's not enough to sway me!!

In NYC, it's still there (price reduced)...

Re: Planning to Switch
As Mary said, you could get a BT adapter. Since your phone would be set down someplace (in the car, on a table, or whatever), the extra small piece of hardware should not be a problem. Then you've effectively added BT to an otherwise complete and perfect phone, the 8000!
Re: what's with Korean companies?
South Korea, home of Samsung and LG, is one of the best wired countries in the world with the latest and greatest electronics, including cell phones.
And LG is on the cutting edge!
I don't think they copy Samsung at all.
They are BETTER than Samsung!!
Re: My observations of the 950 & 8100
I'm not sure you are allowed to try out more than two phones. Otherwise, some people might try out 15!!!

Re: what's with Korean companies?
I think it has something to do with "kimchi." Most kimchi has red coloring from red pepper!! It's delicious!!

Re: No Rebate = No 950!
$100 rebate is back on Verizon site. :D
Re: Not impressed!
You know, I think the red faceplate color matches the red bars of Verizon's user interface!!!
Maybe Samsung is trying to win brownie points with Verizon!!!

Re: Not impressed!
This is about the same feeling I got!!! The 8100 is definitely better than the 950!!!
GET-IT-NOW...
You can also use Get-It-Now to transfer your phonebook. Upload to Verizon then download to your new phone. I believe they charge $1.99 for this service, but I think it's worth it if you have a very large phonebook.
I know, I know, everyone hates giving Verizon any more money, but I think $1.99 is reasonable as a one-time fee.
NO REBATE...
Also, on the VZW website, there's no longer a rebate of $100 on the 950. The price is $249.99 with a 2-yr contract. No rebate is mentioned at all!!
Re: I need some advice...
It looks very nice with the red faceplate. But honestly I think the 8100 looks a little better and seems more solid overall.
Having looked at both the 9800 (pricey) and the 950 (so-so), I decided to stick with my 8000 (for now).
After handling the 8000 for a couple of weeks now, I'm used to the slightly larger size. And I find that no other phone (9800, 8100, 950) feels as solid or quality-built as the 8000... it's ...
Re: Phone Unlock Code (Not the Security Code)
You may find what you're looking for in this service menu...
first press...

then press seven zeros...

Re: reseting call timers for montly usage
I have never been able to reset "all calls" on my Verizon phones.
I think it is set up to be like a car's odometer... it keeps a record of all calls to prove the amount of use the phone has had.
I'm not sure if it can be reset, even if the phone is set back to factory defaults.
This is just a guess on my part.

Re: I need some advice...
Yes. I saw it today at Circuit City. It is true red; it's not pink or a washed-out red!!
:P
Re: hottttttttttttttttttttttttttt
These phones are expensive and so is cellular service. I think you should be perfectly satisfied and comfortable with your purchase, and don't hesitate to return it if you're not happy!!

My guess is it won't be worse than the 8100. If it is, you can keep returning it until it's right!!! 8)
Re: Release Date
The 11th isn't too far away!! But if anyone wants to order it now, it's available on VZW website...

They are already available on the VZW website.

Mary, you might like this one...
