Call quality - Motorola vs. others
May 12, 2005, 11:21 AM
in the Sprint forum

I'm thinking about switching over to Sprint because of their superior coverage where I work. One major BEEF I have with all cellphone carriers is the tendency of their phones to "hang-on" to a marginal signal of their own carrier (instead of roaming), even when call quality suffers. Of course, the phones generally don't let you override and "force" them onto a particular network. I read a few posts about the Motorola V60 which were encouraging as far ...

Sprint Plans - Do they use the Verizon network?
May 10, 2005, 2:01 PM
in the Sprint forum

Here's my dilemma... at work (a hospital) the Sprint coverage is great, and Verizon is marginal. Outside of the hospital, I am overall more impressed with Verizon's coverage (Portland, Oregon). Verizon uses the Sprint network when VZW towers are unavailable, at no additional cost. Does Sprint do the same thing? Thanks, -AG

Treo 600 - Force PCS Mode?

Does anyone know the steps for forcing the Treo 600 into PCS mode temporarily?

Yes, but with Vodafone Italy. That is truly the smallest carrier over there, and unfortunately NOBODY uses it. :( The big ones are TIM and WIND.

International TXT messaging?

I'm very interested in exchanging TXT/SMS messaging with family in Italy. I've attempted to send a couple. I get billed, but they never go through. Does Verizon only have an agreement with Vodafone over there (which, of course, nobody actually uses)? I went so far as to try Cingular GSM, but their coverage where I work sucks. Thanks! -A

Thanks! What is default setting?
Mar 17, 2005, 11:09 PM
in the Verizon forum

That worked perfectly... thank you very much! Just one more question. I didn't pay attention to the default setting that the phone was on prior to switching to PCS only. I'm assuming it was "Digital only". Other options are "Cell only" and something with "REV3" and "REV4". Do you have any idea about this?

Re: Verizon plan using Sprint tower

It's an LG VX6000. I asked Verizon that question and they told me it wasn't possible. My network options are "Home only" and "Automatic"

Verizon plan using Sprint tower

in the Verizon forum

I'm a VZW subscriber and am really happy with overall coverage. One notable exception is where I work, in a hospital. I move around a fair bit while at work, and find that coverage is about 50/50 for Verizon. Interestingly, there must be a Sprint tower nearby, because when I'm on "Extended Network" the signal is great. The PROBLEM is that when my phone picks up the faintest VZW signal, it switches back... and as predicted, drops the call. Does ...

v600i same as v620??
Feb 6, 2005, 12:01 AM
in the Motorola V620 forum

I just ordered a v620 and received a v600i. I hear they're the same phone, except the v600i is marketed to Asia. Is that really the only difference between the two? -AG

AT&T/Cingular vs. Verizon
Feb 6, 2005, 12:00 AM
in the AT&T Wireless forum

I'm a current Verizon customer and am fairly happy, but really would rather have a GSM phone. The technology seems better for data and cross-company SMS messaging, and I occasionally travel to Europe. I just bought a v620 GSM (unlocked) for an upcoming trip, and am thinking about switching from Verizon to either AT&T/Cingular or T-Mobile. Does anyone have any opinions (preferably from personal experience) about coverage areas and service. Verizon has a good network. I'm wondering if ...

GPRS vs. EDGE?
Jan 4, 2005, 10:33 PM
in the Wireless Data forum

I'm a little confused by all this #$@%! terminology! I'm thinking about going GSM, and would like to use my phone for high speed data. I'm looking at the Motorola v620, which has GPRS data. I looked at the review for the upcoming v635, which has "EDGE" data protocol. Are these different? If so, is it a "worthwhile" difference? -A

telestial.com and ustronics.com I don't know what you consider a good price, but they both have them, as I recall. -A
