Re: Includes $70 Unlimited Data
I'm not using them interchangeably. You complained as though these users aren't still getting unlimited data when they very clearly still are (albeit at a slower speed). If you want unlimited data at whatever speed you want (even after breaking your end of a contract) what you're asking for is infinite utilization of a finite resource. To complain about this fact is, as I said, unreasonable.
They aren't throttling people because they're using too much of their unlimited data, they're ...
Re: Just for perspective
Well, actually its more like the 253rd "Galaxy S", but it IS at least the 5th numbered Galaxy S flagship.
Re: Includes $70 Unlimited Data
How many reps of anything go over every single line of any contract you sign and tell you "Don't break the Terms you are agreeing to"? If I'd have to guess, 0. I'm certain they didn't have a problem telling the customer that the data was unlimited, because that's perfectly true (or as true as can by physically expected...people who expect "infinite" anything are simply unreasonable).
If you break a contract you signed, the fact that all they're ...
Re: Just what it needed.
Ok, so we agree they are in most ways identical. Both are cloud storage. Both require a (Microsoft / Google) account. Both have the ability to share and collaborate on projects. Both offer a free suite of office web apps (Office / GDocs).
Basically what you're saying is, more people use Google, so no one should ever use anything else? Because that's a really lame argument. Cool that they give you a TB of ...
Re: Just what it needed.
In what way do they need to offer their (completely unrelated) office suite to make their Cloud highly useful? I use mine all the time, and prefer it over GDrive and Dropbox. Much cleaner and easier to use.
Re: Isn't this kind of pointless?
Were it using an OLED of some variety that would be totally true (and it might), but everything I've heard so far point to it being an IPS LCD which would turn on the whole screen regardless of black pixels or how much of the screen is physically showing. It looks kind of neat, but without the OLED this does seem a bit silly.
New Phone Line Name
As long as they don't call it any variation of "One".
Here's hoping for retaining "Lumia" or going with "Surface".
Re: x platform
Yes, they've said (forget where I read it this morning) that they will continue to sell Asha and X (Android) phones as well as the Lumias. Which is mildly amusing, Microsoft building and selling Android phones, but....who knows how long they'll actually keep making new ones.
Re: Blocking data
Thats not true at all. I get throttled nearly every month (for the last few days-week of the month) on T-Mobile and I can vouch with anecdotal certainty that the phone does not become 'useless' at 2G speeds. You can still easily do web searches and email and use most apps just fine. Heck, I've even successfully streamed music from Google Music (though I don't recommend it).
Video will need to buffer a bit, and streaming music ...
Re: _YOU_ don't get the point.
Oh dear....are you running a fever? I'm afraid you've started talking nonsense :(
Re: "Nokia said it will focus on selling the Icon variant with Verizon in the U.S. "
True, but I was hoping to grab a new phone using my Jump upgrade. If I'm going to save up and buy an unlocked phone outright, I'd probably go for the 1520 (assuming it has any kind of compatibility with T-Mobile's network...not sure, haven't done that research yet)
I just really wish AT&T and Verizon would stop getting all these US exclusives :\
Re: Um successor to 620..
The 925 is a very excellent phone. If the only new Lumia T-Mobile is getting is the 630/635, I may just have to replace my broken one. Very sad. I'm really hoping a new flagship is announced for us soon.
And Microsoft and Nokia have already come and said ALL Windows Phone 8 Lumias will be updated to 8.1, I don't think the carriers really get a say in the matter. I mean, they could delay ...
"Nokia said it will focus on selling the Icon variant with Verizon in the U.S. "
Goddammit! >:(
What about XBox One?
Not that I have or intend to get an XB1, but the Universal Apps should work on the console too, yes?
Re: Dumb
Q30? I think? Or was that late last year?
Woo!
This looks awesome! This may or may not propel Windows into second place (probably not, that's a hell of a gap right now), but these are welcome additions to an OS I'm already quite fond of :)
Now, lets just hope the new flagship Lumias will NOT be AT&T or Verizon exclusives like the 920, 1020, and 1520 (and Icon?) have been :\ As much as I love my Lumia 925 on T-Mobile, I'm in desperate need (well, ...
Re: UltraPixel
True, I guess people know generally what it means, more that its a vague company-specific marketing term. Kind of like how Apple's definition of a Retina display only counts with Apple displays.
I'm curious what the pro/cons are between what HTC is doing with their camera (larger pixels but less of them) vs what Nokia does with their PureView stuff (larger image sensors with lots and lots of normal-sized pixels). Both seem to aid in low-light photography.
I definitely ...
Re: Main camera specs?
Exactly, all very vague definitions, unlike a MP.
"Retina is defined by Apple by the pixels being smaller than the eye can see." Whose eye? At what distance? Is it still "Retina" if it is not an Apple display, even if it otherwise fits the definition? (answer = no)
"4g is defined by the carriers as Internet speed that is significantly faster than 3g." How much faster? At what point does it go from 'Fast 3G' ...
Re: Main camera specs?
No one knows what that means? Seriously? Its a resolution of the image sensor. That's like saying no one knows what the difference between 480i and 1080p is.
Modern cameras capture many more pixels than are generally useful in the end product, but the extra raw data allows for smart down sampling that removes much (if not all) of the noise and sharpens the image at the target resolution.
Now an "UltraPixel"....THAT is something no one knows what ...
Re: HTC can't get a break
You mean the $0 down thing? T-Mobile offers $0 down on ALL of their phones, iPhone, Galaxy, HTC, Lumias, you name it. They've been doing the $0 down thing for at least a couple months now and seem in no particular hurry to stop.
I mean, you still have to pay the sales tax when you pick up the phone, but its still a really good deal, imo.
Re: Another increase?
FWIW, Nokia MixRadio is still only $3.99/mo and imo is much better than Pandora (feature wise anyway, they have different song selections so that's kind of a toss-up).
Doesn't have an Android app, nor does the streaming website work in the stock Android browser, but it seems to work fine in the Chrome Mobile browser.
Also not really sure if Nokia is making any money off of it.
Re: Machine to Machine Services and Affiliates
Isn't AT&T's LTE run on 1900? I would imagine they want to make their network more cross-compatible. T-Mobile has several nice phones, but I would LOVE to be able to grab, say, a Lumia 1520 from AT&T and bring it over to my T-Mobile account without loosing all access to 4G.
Re: The iPhone 5, for example, will require a $100 downpayment, with $20 monthly installments added
Well there's no contract to keep you on their service, but you would still be legally liable to finish paying for the phone regardless of where you took your service. They'll collect enough info on you before you get your phone that they could track you down if you tried to skip town with the phone.
But otherwise yes, you're paying in installments which is, in essence, T-Mobile loaning you that $480 with no interest.
Re: WOW
Technically we were still male even before the genitals developed, on account of said Y chromosome being present.
Re: The price is kinda steep
Really? I'd heard, at least for T-Mobile, that the GS4 would be priced at $99 down, $20/mo for 24 months, which would be a total of $579. Essentially identical pricing to the HTC One (whenever that is available) which isn't that bad a price at all for either.
Re: We are free to leave this month?
I feel bad for all you peeps outside of decent T-Mobile coverage. They have the ENTIRE DFW metroplex blanketed in sweet sweet HSPA+ 42, which has actually been faster on average than AT&T/Verizon's LTE in this area. I never drop calls, never loose signal (inside of large buildings aside) and always have peppy data speeds for considerably less per month than any other carrier.
I hope they build out more towers, because their service and value are both ...
Re: The 4? Really?
I don't know about trademarks, but last I heard Google applied for the patent on their Notification Shade a couple years ago. They are still waiting for final approval on that, though, so they may not be able to enforce the patent until the USPTO finalizes the application and grants them the patent.
Whether or not they sue anyone once they have the patent is another matter, though.
Re: Good Plan
Lazy ;) Actually, now that I think about it, T-Mobile didn't push the 7.8 update to their Lumia 710s. Can't believe I forgot about that, I was so pissed! I mean, manually flashing the update wasn't terribly hard, but.....still. Never did figure out WHY they refused to push the update. I can't imagine the handful of Lumias on their network would stress their servers at all :\
Re: The states get a worse processor than the international ?
Wait, what? I thought we got a different processor in the GS3 because the stock processor for the international version was incompatible with our LTE networks?
They did at least compensate us (to an extent) with double the RAM of the International.
Re: Meh
I can't speak for everyone, but I know I've dropped my old GS3 countless times without a case. Hard wood, concrete, highway pavement, each time from about 4-5' in the air (out of my shirt pocket). Damn thing didn't have a scuff or scratch anywhere on it. Makes me laugh when people give Samsung **** for their "crappy plastic phones". Damn things are nigh indestructible compared to most other (modern) phones I've seen, especially those ...
Re: Good Plan
How would carriers botch this? I thought Windows Phone updated similarly to iPhones, where Microsoft (or the OEMs) can push the update to all applicable devices at the same time, regardless of the network they're running on....?
Not that this affects me, my little Lumia 710 ain't getting any more updates.
Re: Now... go for T-Mobile
If you're in a major metroplex (which I assume most small businesses are) you're pretty well covered by T-Mobile. I know at least there isn't a place in the entire DFW area that I can't get their HSPA+ signal. YMMV, of course.
Re: Now....
Legit? That seems odd, considering I'm pretty sure horses are more expensive than cows. Also always thought horses were much more valuable alive than as meat.
Re: This is....
They apparently had time to dick around with laws like this a couple months ago when they first made it illegal to unlock your own phone. Though I suppose there's little profit to be made from doing what is right for the consumer....
Re: That's a pretty quick fix
I've heard Google Play apps run absolutely terrible on BB10 devices. Have you heard of any fixes to that issue, or was the issue perhaps blown out of proportion?
Re: Speed....
Well, the US variants of the Galaxy S III have 2GB of RAM, but no quad-core, so that may not fit your criteria.
Re: Be careful
Poor LG, absolutely no love....well, at least everyone seems to want their Nexus 4, even though LG apparently fails at mass production and distribution XD
Re: I am really angry about this.
Just wanted to let you know that I followed your instructions last night and was quite successful in updating my 710 to 7.8. Seems like a new homescreen shouldn't be so exciting, but I find I really do like the new version better.
If WP8 fixes the app availability issue, I very well may have to upgrade to a newer Lumia for my next phone. Unless Samsung does something amazing that triggers my tech lust, anyway XD
Thanks again ...
Re: I am really angry about this.
Thanks! I'll give that a try tonight or tomorrow (depending on other things). Honestly, the new homescreen is the thing I want most from the update. The "small" tile in 7.5 is fine for things with Live info, but takes up WAY too much space for simple things like a calculator, new OneNote, etc. Scrolling through a 2-wide vertical column 25-30 apps long is NO FUN. I imagine the new size and better use ...
Re: I am really angry about this.
Does that work for US T-Mobile 710s? The first comment in your link says it only works if the carrier has the update stored on their network somewhere for Zune to pull from. It doens't sound like T-Mobile will have the update anywhere to be found though :\
The only reliable way I've heard to get the upgrade is to manually flash the .cab files, which I'm a little more hesitant to do than I am with flashing ...
