Re: SMT 5600 garbage
There are thousands and thousands of users out there who would vehemently disagree with you. Check your own company's website forum and you'll see what I'm talking about. But then again, you must be one of those pushing that Moto mpx 220 disasters. Most of us 5600 users had the mpx200 and remember that mess. The 5600 is a breath of fresh air. A phone that does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Re: Does it play WMA music files?
One caveat to using wma or mp3 for ringtones. You must place ringotones in your sounds folder. If you assign an mp3 that is located on your MiniSD card, as a ringtone, you will lose the ringtone when you power down your phone.
Also yes WMA Lossless works. Actually, after doing a little research on the matter, lossless is what they recommend.
Re: Unlock sites... Legit?
Yes, that is the site we all used to unlock the 5600. It took 15 minutes from payment to receipt of the unlock code. As a bonus, I also received the firmware file. I think they threw this in because long before unlocking was available for this phone, the workaround was to update the firmware to the Euro version. They included the firmware file so that those people could revert back to the original firmware. ...
Re: Audiovox SMT 5600 or the V3?
I feel your pain. Fed up with the MPx200, I got a "normal" cell phone and after a week or two without my Windows Mobile, I was dying. Luckily the SMT 5600 came out as I was beginning my withdrawal so I picked it up. A month later, I am so happy with this phone. Possibly the only thing that could make it better is if it were a clamshell. I listen to music, ...
Re: 5600 internet wap on Cingular now working !!!!
Now that you've got it working, could you please post the settings? I like you got mine unlocked and have the Cingular rep ready to give me a Cingular SIM and sign me up. I just wanted to wait until people had the Cingular gprs settings ironed out. Thanks in advance.
Re: Opinions on 5600 RF performance ??
Coming from the MPx200, my 5600 reception is MUCH greater. I can even use the phone in my home instead of having to go outside. Also handles tower handoffs much better. I dont' lose the call anymore...just a few seconds of bad signal then it picks right back up. The only dropped calls I've had have been when entering subway tunnels. I'm quite pleased overall.
Re: Unlocked - SMT 5600
"Legal is yet another issue altogether. The last time I researched it, it was my understanding that it was up to the carriers as to whether or not they would release SIM restriction unlock codes or not, but there really hasn't been any litigation to test the true legality or illegality of unlocking. I wouldn't be surprised if it is technically "Illegal", however I doubt sincerely that ANY carrier has made any significant prosecution on that charge."
As far as ...
Re: IE data size
I agree, the unlimited $25 data plan is worth it. I find that before I know it, I've used 4 MB in a weekend of looking up movie times, directions, scores, and checking email.
Re: Anyone else having problems using 3 way calling with SMT 5600?
I just tried it twice with mine and had no problem. I have the $39.99 plan. I think you may have to log in to online customer service and actually activate that feature. Although it is included, if memory serves me, you have to manually activate it. Hope this helps.
Re: standard headset jack?
You do need an adapter to use regular headphones for listening to mp3s. I found one at Radio Shack for $6. Now I use my Sony headphones and have to turn the volume down to around 40%. With the supplied headset, I had the volume up around 65-75% consistently.
Re: Unlocked?
Your alternative is to buy it unlocked. I believe you can get it on expansys.com. Of course the price will be SIGNIFICANTLY higher ~$500.
