GPS on Touch Diamond

in the Article: HTC Launches CDMA Variant of Touch Diamond forum

Telus of Canada will have Telus Navigator available for the Touch Diamond. http://www.telusmobility.com/bc/wweb/navigato r.shtml is the link to the Telus Nav. page. Anyhow, it seems very likely to me that VZ will have VZ Navigator available to run on this phone. The reason I say this, is that based on the Telus website, the Touch Diamond is the first smartphone to run Telus Navigator. I predict that by the time the Touch Diamond hits the stores, all the newer WinMo ...

For "good" customers only??

in the Motorola Z6c World Edition forum

I read somewhere, that once a customer has established a good record with Verizon, they'll unlock the GSM part of the Z6C to allow other SIM cards. If I purchase this phone, I'll just pay the roaming charges if in Europe as I'm sure it won't be bad...I'm sure it'll be competitive. In India I'd simply get a SIM card over there. Upon arrival in an airport in India, $1.29 a minute for urgent calls is reasonable. I don't ...

Micro-SD problems?
Dec 23, 2007, 8:45 PM
in the LG Venus VX-8800 forum

Hi, I had read on a CNET forum that despite saying it takes an 8 GB micro-SD card, the actual available size is less than half that...one user said his card said that he only had 1.7 GB usable....this is pitiful, and apparently LG knows about this? Anyone used an 8 GB card and got full usage from the card? Even a 6 GB??? Thx, Roger

We need this one at Verizon!!!

Seems a good phone. The user's manual on the FCC website shows how to use Verizon VZ Access etc so we know for sure its destined for VZW. But its not for me....I need a WM Pro phone. Too bad. Seems like a great phone otherwise. Roger

VZ Access Manager comes with i760

in the Samsung SCH-i760 forum

Hi, I have a spec sheet printed out on the i760 (Store manager printed it for me) Part of the right side of the page got cut out by the printer. But it clearly says you can use it as a tethered modem. VZ Access Manager is included. Roger

Hi there, I respect what you say and you may be largely right. http://vznavigator.vzw.com/about.html says that their VZ Nav *is* GPS assisted, though partly phone-tower assisted also once a fix is obtained. I found that I have to have the device open to the sky to get a fix...it will not get a fix unless that is done. I don't know exactly how VZW uses their towers to get a fix to within yards...I think that's near impossible. Whatever!! ...

GPS on phones

Hi evilhomer, I've had VZ Nav on my LG 8300. It works like a charm..fast, dependable and accurate. And the antenna is right on the phone. The "real" GPS you speak of...on a smartphone you'd have to get an external GPS "puck" antenna. And pay $$ for the software. With VZ Nav I just pay $3.00 when I need it for a day or $10 a month, whichever. I think that VZ Nav is really challenging the GPS industry. Roger

I played with it briefly. Feels as heavy as a piece of granite...it really does. But what turned me off is having to pay $40 a month just for data connection and then $10 a month for GPS....I'll pass until Verizon gets a similar model. After all, HTC is in business to sell phones. Sooner or later Verizon will get one. Roger

Samsung i760 is now available
Oct 8, 2007, 3:59 PM
in the Samsung SCH-i760 forum

I called Verizon's 800#, which is 800-922-0204 and was told that YES, the i760 is available. $400 for a 2 year contract but $50 off if eligible like I will be in December. It has GPS but no VZ Navigator. The first smartphone to get VZ Nav will be a Blackberry 8830, or perhaps the BB Pearl 2, I'm not sure. Date unsure. Its not clear how many more months it'll be before VZW makes its smartphones VZ Nav ...

GPS but not VZNav

in the Samsung SCH-i760 forum

I'll answer my own question, as I got some info thanks to a member. The i760 is GPS capable and you can get an external bluetooth GPS puck and get GPS that way, but not VZ Nav...(which is great while walking around a new city) Still, this ought to work fine while driving using CoPilot or some such device. However, I am so spoiled by the fantastic VZ Nav on my LG 8300. I will wait a few months ...

VZ Navigator on Samsung i760
Oct 7, 2007, 11:04 AM
in the Samsung SCH-i760 forum

Hi anyone, Samsung's website gives no information as to whether you can run VZ Navigator on this new phone. As far as I'm concerned..no GPS-No sale! I hear Verizon is trying to get all its smartphones VZ Navigator...who knows how long that'll take! Roger Unfortunately I'll have to wait till Dec 6th to upgrade my phone...if it can run VZNav. Ah, well.

Can it run VZ Navigator

Hi, the Samsung web site says nothing about the GPS capability of the i760...Have you tried running VZ Navigator on it? Thanks, Roger
