Ok I will just be giving you a simple idea of what this does: The use of this tech is allowing you to talk where the voice is not working to well, Just like verizon/sprint/tmobile its allowing you to pick up signal where you would be able to before. Therefore VOIP is the honestly only way you are going to work it, 3g is going to make the battery drain faster but not as fast as using the phone ...
Verizon and Alltel use CDMA so there is no change
Umm, Verizon allready has open access to their network, from what I remember it was the "prefered phones i.e. phones that are on the CDMA network."

Umm Android did come out.... It didnt work well it still has a long way to go for full intergration of Pop3 accnts. Also Apple isnt really an operating system that will move to other phones What we see with this is that they are doing the same thing that they do with Windows on the PC. Umm confused here South Dakota only has Altel and Verizon wouldnt they need to divest this market as well since legally they only can have two nat'l carriers.

Ok, so you are upset that you dropped OVER 15 calls in the last month. Let me get something straight for your thoughts about the services you recieve. You are in an area that will drop a call because MAYBE the tower isnt pointed towards you so you are getting a residule signal. Or You are in an area that is by a heavy populated area....Wouldnt doubt that fact given the market you live in. probably live near an interstate. ...
I noticed that they are using Cingular software. which means, that you are not able to get the best service. try to update to ATT.
