the reason the SDK for WP8 and WP7.8 are different is because fundamentally the OSes have vastly different hardware requirements nd features. For anyone who is an WP app dev, WP8 is backwards compatible for WP7 apps. Like Apple, the 7.8 update adds MOST of the new features on the older hardware.

Exclusive dealer. idk, man... it's a tough call. the BB 10 stuff -could- be alright, but it's tough to wait. I was a BB guy for like 6 years, and went to Android for a year or so, and now on WP7. I have to say I am reeeally digging it...

in the Article: Verizon Implementing $30 Upgrade Fee Starting April 22 forum

ah yes, the eternal debate of just including the cost of activation or upgrading into the handset cost. Won't happen. Why? The average Joe consumer will walk into a retail store and see the deal for "free" or whatever and jump on it. Make that free or discounted handset thirty bucks more, and they are less likely to buy. Normal customers don't really feel they're paying for something when it goes on the bill to be seen later.

The big dogs all move in lock step. One does something, you can bet the others will follow. AT&T implemented a $36 fee not too long ago and Sprint has it too, and even T-Mo has an $18 fee - this was bound to happen. It's revenue. The end.

At least they are doing something about it. The Focus Flash comes to mind as a comparison. Ongoing issues with freezing, fully software related. Where's Samsung stepping up with a credit? Hell, they didn't even acknowledge the issue.

"Rebate" is a $100 bill credit

I applaud Nokia and AT&T for doing the "right" thing. The $100 bill credit will post on your next bill cycle. No "predpaid debit cards" or paperwork or phone calls. Just buy one through 4/21 and you're good! The update is slated for the 16th, but only a small percentage of the handsets are experiencing this issue. If you are in fact experiencing the problem, take it back to your store and get a new one. Boom. Done.

I pay 399.99 for the Atrix 2. I sell it for 99.99. That's a lot of "red cents" I lose up front. AT&T pays me a commission based off the rate plan and features my employees sell. So... on a $9.99 partner line, let's say with a $20 data plan, factoring in the subsidy cut on the phone, assuming AT&T didn't pay commissions on the sale as well, it would take 10 months before they turn a profit ...

That's a terrible analogy, AJ. So... "I" = DT? T-Mobile = the barrels of toxic waste? AT&T = a shipping company that dumps barrels like this at sea? I can't even think of a way to edit that to make sense. If DT is eager to sell their US operations, then why not work with a company that has the resources to do so. Regardless of AT&T's motivation to do this (spectrum/customers/eliminate competition) you can't fault them for doing so. People's best interests ALWAYS ...

There had been no announcement about the fate of T-Mobile plans, but judging by the fact that the only time I've seen Cingular/AT&T require a plan change from ...

...John, haven't you said before that you are a stockholder or some such nonsense? I'll bet you are providing your "clients" some really great advice. Out of curiosity, what do you charge people for your services? it seems like whatever savings you think shuffling people over to Sprint would give your clients wouldn't be massive savings, and wouldn't give you much margain to slurp off of. ....yeah.......slurp. Oh, and FYI - THAT is not why carrier reps don't ...

Agreed. Verizon (the only "real" competition we have where I am at) is port negative to AT&T. The number one reason I hear from customers porting in is poor Verizon customer service experience. We bend over backwards to help our customers, and it shows.

You don't know what you're talking about. I am listening to one of my gimps talk a guy right now that has a legacy Dobson plan - the same plan he has had since 2004. He's resigning his contract for a second time since being with AT&T, and still keeping his old plan. You should be rejoicing, ant - you'll in all likelihood be able to keep your plan AND not have crappy T-Mo coverage! Best of both worlds...

Holy crap, dude. Chill out. So this is a T-Mobile customer that is happy that his carrier is being absorbed by a healthier and larger company (with compatible network infrastructure) and you're tearing him apart? What is wrong about what he said, aside from his opinion differing from yours? Sure, comparing the Titanic to Sprint is a little dramatic, but seriously? Everyone is entitled to their own opinions... Your "THE END IS NEAR!!!!" post is a taaaaaaad unnecessary. Sorry.

Mar 20, 2011, 8:27 PM
in the Article: AT&T To Acquire T-Mobile USA forum

It's not an issue of who has coverage where. It has to do with competition. For example, if there is an area that Sprint doesn't own spectrum in, they could buy the market if the FTC determines that AT&T's absorption of T-Mobile would make for unfair competition (read: too little competition). There will be a lot of divested markets...

This includes all those $45 unlimited plans and also the obnoxious $19.99 plans... Every Dobson Cellular One plan that people had, they could still keep - to this day, even after switching equipment, SIM cards, etc. AT&T has been very good to those customers. I assume with as big of an acquisition this is, they'd load up Telegence with the proper plans/features/etc. A lot of customers see value in Rollover and the new mobile to any mobile option, so ...

It has nothing to do with gaining coverage. It all has to do with acquiring subs and spectrum, the latter being the biggest motivator.
