Cant reject the buyout
FCC can and should not reject the buyout for 2 reasons, it would be unfair to AT&T if the buyout was rejected in both cases. Verizon was allowed to purchase alltel making them the largest provider jumping AT&T so when AT&T attempts to buy someone else to compete with verizon it wouldnt be fair to reject that bid and AT&T was already broken up once by the FCC making way to many bells nationwide and giving verizon the opportunity to become the largest provider nationwide. They already got knocked down and forced out of the number one spot so they cant keep kicking AT&T while they are down. This will make 2 huge companies but as was said it would be a mess if sprint buys them out with all thier different technologies and they still wouldnt b...

AT&T is just a name. This is not the same company that was split by the government. That company no longer exists. They were purchased by SBC, who then just assumed the older name.

Sprint wanted to merge with T-Mobile to avoid going out of business.
T-Mobile found a way out of its network quagmire, and it wasn't with tying up with Sprint.

Sprint should just lure T-mobile customers with insane offers.
If Sprint offered a crazy deal specifically to T-mobile customers to give them an incentive to switch to Sprint, they could steal away some customers before the deal closes which would mean less subscribers for AT&T to take over.
For example, if Sprint offered T-mobile customers lower prices on phones and if they offered to pay their EFC to switch, they could get a large chunk of subscribers. The only question is, would they be willing to take a risk doing so?

I agree with their sentinments but if you think Sprint is out for the best interest of the consumer you're a sucker. They're just another company trying to make a buck in this old world. This is a business and they're in it to make money. They're just bitter because they didn't they have enough capital buy T-Mo from DT.

i think sprint will end up getting a decent end of the deal. there are many tmobile customer who went to tmobile because they did not like att. they are not going to go back and will either go to sprint or to verizon. tmobile has been slowing failing ...

The DOJ and the FCC must decide if this transaction is in the best interest of consumers and the US economy overall, and determine if innovation and robust competition would be impacted adversely and by this dramatic change in the structure of the industry.
Ensuring a free, robustly competitive market providing consumers with a healthy selection of choices is paramount, yet allowing a merger of this kind could potentially drown smaller companies (such as Sprint and rural carriers) and create a duopoly. I hope the DOJ sincerely considers the gravity of the effect this merger could have upon the market, else the government may be shooting itself in the foot and screwing us consumers in the process.
