Re: Out of Country
As I have not done this in Kenya, but this is the process I go through when checking out a new country I'm traveling to.
First check out GSM roaming to identify who are the carriers & what roaming agreements they have with you home carrier. That can be found here...

You may also look at getting local prepaid SIMs in some countries as these can be less expensive than roaming. Your device must ...
Re: When wil Cingular (at&t) & Mobile have it?
The infrastucture is being built now. UTMS / HSDPA is up in 16+ cities with the major part of the rollout for Cingular will be done by 2007. I'm currently using the 3G card in my notebook & am getting DL speed up to 1.5Mb.
Generally it appears Cingular is 6mo to 1yr behind when bringing out devices.

Re: Any real-world results to share yet?

I didn't believe it & ran six different tests with multiple test points. all tested between 1mb & 1.5mb down. That said the upload was only around 100K.
Throughout the following week I got consistent download performance in excess of ...
UMTS Active...
As far as I can tell, UMTS rolled out in 16 cities on the 18th of Nov. I just picked-up a new Sierra AirCard and tried it in Chicago. Download speed are great - upload is poor. First impressions are good. The card is HSDMP ready once the network catches up.
