Re: I need advice: should I switch
I'd ask around -- see who your friends have for carriers and how they like them. The coolest phone in the world is a paperweight without service.
"Selective" Vision
I have noticed that sometimes I cannot get to local WAP sites I have bookmarked --"Communication Error" etc -- while national sites like CNN or Yahoo! come in fine. Anyone else have this? Any ideas?
Re: New Software for VGA1000/A620???
Sorry -- that's "what it will add", not "what I will add".
Re: New Software for VGA1000/A620???
And does anyone know what I will add? (See my earlier question and replies.) I love my A620 as is, and am excited at the prospect of an upgrade for it.
Re: SMS??
Anybody know 1) if SMS will be included in Vision, or will it be an extra charge, and 2) will the Samsung VGA100 (aka a620) be able to be updated for it?
Re: AT&T Buyout - Correction
I agree with both you guys. The rep didn't create the problem, and a lot of times can't fix it either. And wireless service is human and mechanical, meaning there will be problems. I've had four carriers over the years, a company that became part of Alltel, ATTWS, Verizon briefly, and now Sprint. With all four it's been my experience that if you approach the rep not as the source of the problem but someone ...
Re: Where is everyone?
Your experience sounds a lot like mine, Scandal. I was with AWS for three years and never once had a bad experience with a rep, either on the phone or in the stores. They were always both helpful and knowledgeable. As to the wireless service itself I wanted to add data at my next upgrade, without giving up call coverage of course, and it wasn't the reps fault that they could offer only either great TDMA ...
Re: GSM systems and yelling at us for them
Well, it isn't the case. Whether I stay or leave couldn't make less difference to ATTWS or any of its subscribers. My decision was not about them. It amazes me that so many ATT subscribers seem to take their company personally, but maybe that accounts for why unlike any other carrier there is so much of a "just believe and wait and it'll get better" attituge on boards about them. My point was, why do ...
Re: Sprint (Network & Services) Vs. Verizon (Network & Services)
I too found it great to read something not trying to pound a party line for this or that carrier or technology. I'm a Sprint convert, but that isn't to say the other carriers and technologies don't have their good points. Of course they do. It's nice to hear from a Verizon user who says the same.
Re: GSM systems and yelling at us for them
I suggest only one guideline: get another carrier. I did, and life is once again good!
Re: Phone with best reception ability?
There's no denying the majority view on any forum that Sanyos beat Samsungs. Being a Sprint newbie, all I can say is my Samsung VGA1000 gives me no reception problems whatever. Including in my basement. I had an LG4400 from Verizon that went in and out of Extended Area in my basement (and most everywhere else too). My various Nokias with ATTWS sometimes registered No Service in my basement, but move it a foot and ...
Eve of LNP
Just a vent. I'm not a fan of telcos. They don't exist to provide service for their subscribers or jobs for their employees. They exist to produce quarterly profits for their shareholders. That said, LNP is not fair to them. Every service agreement since phone service began clearly states the phone number is their property and part of the service they provide. Like credit card numbers and email addresses. Change companies, get ...
Re: Sprint or Cingular?
On the other hand, Sprint will launch a straight up SMS in December, so you'll have a choice of that or their web based messaging.
Re: Attn: Pumpkin
I've been using a Samsung VGA1000 (aka SPH-A620) for about a month now, after several years of Nokias with ATTWS and a company that is now part of Alltel before that. I read lots of user reviews going into it of Sprint's phones, mainly Sanyo and Samsung. There was a clear thread of opinion that Samsungs were great but just didn't have the reception of the Sanyos among Sprint users, but I didn't sense that with users ...
Re: which is better? Verizon, ATT or Cingular, also number portability
And -- I got the phone for $100, about the same ATTWS would charge me for a new TDMA offering voice and SMS like I have now!
Re: which is better? Verizon, ATT or Cingular, also number portability
I've had the same experience with ATTWS in the middle of the country, and the GMS coverage is nothing. Almost any other carrier can offer you 2.5 or 2G stuff on existing networks, meaning no loss in coverage. I tried Verizon and it continually went to Extended Area, dropping calls (Omaha) which ATTWS TDMA never did anywhere. I've carried a Sprint Samsung VGA1000 for almost two weeks, signal as good as AT&T, plus pix and 3G ...
Then and Now
When ATTWS came to town in August 2000, I was the third guy to sign up. The other choices were a company (which I had) that is now part of Alltel, one that is now part of Verizon, and Sprint. ATTWS beat them hands down. Coverage plans were fantastic. I took Regional Advantage, always had a signal, never had roaming in my area. New phones were always coming out with new features. PocketNet ...
