Question..

I posted this before and didnt really get any replies. I'm gonna post it again because if no one really has any other suggestions, i am going to purchase it.

I've never really had a great phone, just those crappy ones they give you with signing a contract.

I wanted a phone with these 3 main things:
1. Plays music
2. Has camera
3. Expandable memory

The guy at the dealer suggested the mpx220 so I've been researching it to see if i really want it. I've read about the camera and how many dont like it, and i know this phone does have expandable memory, and i read that if you use an adapter you can play music with head phones.

any advice?

Mini SD Memory?

Question 1:

Does adding Mini SD Memory in anyway improve the performance of the phone like adding RAM to a regular computer?

Question 2:

If so, how do you utilize the Mini SD memory card?
I have installed a 256MB card and nothing has happened. The phone recognized the card but everything is still storing to my phone. I have over 400 contacts I would like to store to my Mini SD card.

Please help if you can!!!

Earpiece Volume

I sent a message directly to Motorola to inquire about the earpiece volume. Apparently, they feel that it is fine. Below is their response:

"Thank you for contacting Motorola e-mail support. We really appreciate your interest in our brand and our products.

Regarding your e-mail, the MPX220 has launched with Cingular service, and the earpiece sound volume on this phone is not having any problems at the moment. Actually, this is not a known issue.

We hope you find this information helpful. For further information about this or any other subject, please do not hesitate to contact our Customer Care Division at 1-800-331-6456 from Mondays to Fridays 8am to 7pm CST. Also, for other products, you may visit our web site at www.motorola.com...

Question on Best Buy policy and the MPX

All,

I have now been through 3 Mpx220's. All through Best Buy. I bought and returned my first and then purchased another and then exchanged it for another which I have today. all of this because of the volume/earpiece issue.

My specific question is what happens if I decide to return and exchange again (in hopes of getting a better working/newer firmware version)? In other words, if I do return and exchange does the date for making any returns (30 days from original purchase)according to the receipt kick in or do they work off of the exchange dates?

Any thoughts/knowledge of when for sure Cingular will have a version in their corporate stores?

thanks all!

...not for the squeamish

Tonight, I performed a small surgical procedure on my MPx220. You know the little 'Cingular' nameplate at the bottom of the phone? I pried it off and guess what? The microphone's quality improved immediately. Of course, doing this left an open wound on the phone, but it did expose a real microphone underneath. My friends tell me that I no longer sound like I'm speaking through layers of Kevlar.

Again, we have to ask: why did Motorola intentionally cripple this phone? It's potential is definitely there.

Folks, I say stay with the Microsoft Smartphone (any model) There is no substitute.

Choices.....which one?

I currently have a V600. not the best phone I have ever owned but not too bad either. Now, with all of these new Motorolas out, I decided it is time to upgrade. Since I work (rotational) in Europe and africa, I need quad band for sure. The V600 works great everywhere I go, But...
The MPX220 looks like the phone I want but I read about so many issues people are having with it. The V3 is pretty but it IS just a pretty phone. (of course, isnt that the idea?) Then there's the V551, pretty much does it all plus it has EDGE as opposed to GPRS, and it is a lot more reasonably priced.
Could i get some advice/opinions please?

Best Buy, Motorola - 0/3 !!!

I went to Best Buy today to exchange my MPX220 for a new one. The one I bought had volume and stability issues. I ended up trying two other phones. The volume on both of them was far worse than the original. I ended up returning the phone...

Now I have a 256 MB SD card and a bluetooth headset on the way, with no phone to use them on...

I should also note that I test drove the Audiovox SMT 5600 but found the main navigation control to be very annoying. I will wait for Motorola to fix the MPX220 and buy another one although I should disown Motorola for shipping a large batch of unusable phones.

unlocking phone

I apologize if this question has been answered, but I was just wondering if someone could tell me what exactly unlocking the phone does? From what I gathered, it does something for international calling, and also for taking a phone to another provider.

Thanks for your input

...and speaking of listening to MP3's on your phone

Could someone tell me if an adapter exists that would allow me to plug standard stereo headphones into my phone using a plug adapter?

As you know, manufacturers (in their infinite wisdom) chose to design mobile phones using 2.5mm jacks. Well, that happens to NOT be the size that cheap, walkman-like headphones use. I've tried Radio Shack's adapter but sound only comes out of one side.

Motorola sells stereo headphones (model HS120) but they cost between $20-$30: a ridiculous price.

Those of you that are listening to MP3's on your phones, what solution have you come up with?

And for those who strongly suggest i dont buy this phone, i would like to know of any other phones for At&t ( i guess cingular now too) that have these 3 features. Thanks.

Listening to MP3s

Hello,
So can I copy MP3 files to a SD chip and listen to them on this phone? How is the sound quality? How about the UI for the MP3 player? Any other comments about playing MP3s? Thanks.

MPX220 Review

Just purchased from Best Buy last night for $249. I have experienced any/all of the problems mentioned in this forum. These are:

1. Low Volume - You can adjust the volume setting on the Normal profile to "Loud", the default is 3. Volume is still significantly lower than on my Motorola V60.

2. Crashes - The phone has crashed 5 times in less than 24 hours. It freezes and requires battery removal to reset itself. These crashes have not occurred during regular operation but have occurred while changing advanced settings.

3. Java support - I am dissappointed to learn that the phone requires Java applications and games to be downloaded via IE, you cannot simply copy using ActiveSync.

I like the ergonomics/design of the phone and the lo...

BAD NEWS!!! ABOUT MPX220

Hey you guys, i currently own the V300 and can't wait till I get the mpx220 In jan.
As we all know, cingular and Att have joined forces. And I am planning to get the mpx220 for att. However, the bad news is that att isn't getting the phone anymore 😢 .. I looked at the phonescoop mpx220 link yesterday and it just said Cingular ..not att(tentative). I then went to hellomoto.com and it no longer has any promotions for the Mpx220 w/ att. So yes as we all guessed att isn't getting the phone. att says it would be out by nov 2nd ..and today is the 5th. So that answers my question. If anybody has any comments please reply it would be Extremely helpful!!!

IF ANYONE IS HAVING VOLUME ISSUES READ THIS

motorola is aware of the issue and for the time being this is a temp. fix. Go change your profile to OUTDOOR. this will more than double the volume until motorola comes up with a fix.
