30 day follow up mini review of my BB Storm 9530 on Verizon

30 day follow up mini review of my BB Storm 9530 on Verizon.

First off let me just say, I am loving my Storm,
I have updated my OS to .103, no problems.

PROS
- Good battery life even with the
standard battery

- Voice dial is great

- seems to get better reception overall

- clicky screen has grown on me in a good way.

- Watching videos in landscape is still very
cool.

- The alarm clock feature when charging is
great.

- The built in browser has been able to render
just about every web page I have visited

- The Blackberry OS is just superior to
Windows Mobile is so many ways.

- Super clear readable fonts and text.

- Love how you can listen to music and
the phone is smart enough to pause,...

Difficulty with Backup/Restore

I'm still running the .75 software and have been having difficulty with Desktop Software. Every time I attempt to run a backup of my phone, I get an error message. I've tried desktop 4.6 and 4.7. I want to install the .103 or .109 software, but not before backing up my phone. Suggestions?

Help deciding if a Blackberry is a good idea for me?

I have always wanted a blackberry and thought I knew alot about them. Now, after looking at the Storm, I am more confused than I was. The whole WIFI thing confuses me. I like the ability of being able to access my e-mail when I am out and that was one of the big reasons I wanted a blackberry.

For all of you blackberry users....can you fill me in on what made you decide on owning one? I want it mostly for personal use.

R.I.P 1st Storm - Possible suspects .103 - Please Read First

Dude.

I need some help here. My 1st storm died a pretty horrible death yesterday. First off let me explain what I had on the phone:
over 100 songs
2 movies
tons o emails
tons o texts
15 voicemails
apps: google maps, google sync, im+, tetris, key lock, Opera,

AND NOW. . .
The last software I download was crackberry apps, and slydial. Of course, I downloaded .87, .99, and .103.
The phone started to act real slow and sluggish THEN the unthinkable. I took the battery out and when it rebooted, I got the dreaded white screen. Then nothingness.

Verizon did give me a new unit and I did appreciate that but what gives guys? Was .103 the culprit. Crackberry? Slydial?

Feedback on Slydial

For those of you interested in the Slydial, direct to mobile voicemail app, I've been using the Free Beta version, which, after 8 months of testing, now offers a premium service which eliminates the ads and goes directly to voicemail. If you upgrade before March 2nd, the cost for unlimited usage is $14.95 for the year. There are less expensive options available.

As soon as your payment is processed, the transition is seamless and immediate.

The best part of this app, is that it enables you to message without interaction, length limitation as in txt msgs., and finding your contact unable to respond to an email (we have that Blackberry). However, 90% of the people we communicate with are not sitting by the computer screen. Consequently, ...

Csn the contact list on a Blackberry Storm be backed up using Backup Assistant? For that matter, can the contact list on any Blackberry be backed up in that way? Thanks.

Where can you get the free apps? have trouble navigating the crackberry site on the phones browser. The apps seems a little pricey as well.

Couple a questions

My wife and I did the bogo thing; we're both loving this phone. I was with vz/pearl and she had the curve/tmob. Must say the bb2bb is the best.
Does using the auto off/on really speed up the operations of the phone? I never used it with my pearl.
Just how do you delete unneeded apps? I've looked in Options and tried under Applications; there's no delete function.
And about the key adjustments: key rate? and tap interval? Still struggling with the tap screen thing.
Thanks for any help.

Voicemail Direct

There is a free program for Blackberry called Slydial which enables you to call mobile voicemail directly without having the other person's phone ring or having them pick it up.

The application runs off your contact menu button and provides a field to make the call directly from contacts or dial any number you want from the icon click. Its easily down-loadable from an email.

which data plan?

I reallly want to purchase the storm but have never had a blackberry . Which data plan is best to take? Since I only have had a regular cell phone, I have no idea and obviously I'd prefer the lower rate. I use this for my personal life. Not professional.

Any help that you could give me about blackberry's, I'd appreciate as soon as you can!

I am due for my new every two and have a $100 credit available, so would have to still pay the $99 (I was hoping the price would have gone down by now but I suppose it's still too new).

Also, which software version does the STORM have as of now?

OS 4.7.0.103 Install Issue

OK, so I downloaded this leaked OS, and everything is looking good so far except for the fact that I no longer have a web browser on my phone! How do I get this back?

I'm also missing the apps folder, but since I currently have all I wanted from that (and since Verizon doesn't seem to be in a hurry to add more) I can live without that for a bit!

I do need the web browser though, so any suggestions would be appreciated!

slingbox on storm..

hey guys, so many of you are wondering how to install slingbox on your storm.. well i havent tried this seeing that i dont have slingbox but i really want to help.. i checked out a few sites and this guy named gary on crackberry left a comment saying..

"One way to get the Sling Player to work on the Storm is to plug this address into your browser:

download (dot) slingmedia (dot) com/player/mobile/bbbeta503/US/SlingPlayer_de f_EN_US.jad

You can then bypass the Sling site telling you the Storm is not compatible. Remember, it is not designed for the Storm and it may not work great. I disabled compatibility mode and found it was acceptable."

also, theres a forum link..:
