There is a free program for Blackberry called Slydial which enables you to call mobile voicemail directly without having the other person's phone ring or having them pick it up.

The application runs off your contact menu button and provides a field to make the call directly from contacts or dial any number you want from the icon click. Its easily down-loadable from an email.

Visual Voicemail only permits you to call back a number from a message left in your register. The key feature with Slydial is that you can make a call to anyone on your contact list directly into their voicemail without going thru the ringer of the receiver's phone. The only other way that can be done is if their phone is off.

For example, you may leave a message late at night without disturbing the person you are calling. Verizon's VVM has no such provision.

I'm in canada with telus and i can just call my VM and press 2 to leave a VM with someone. Not sure if it works with other carriers but i've never had any use for it. If i don't want to talk to the person right away i just text them or email them.

I should move to Canada (lol). Verizon doesn't even offer an update for this phone, even though there's been 5 or 6 leaked versions, and its been "forever" since the last official one (.75)

The "sleeping dinosaur" would find a way to charge for your Telus Press 2 feature. The Slydial application has its greatest usefulness when you want to leave a voice message without bothering to engage in conversation.

A very simple concept.... 😕

Telus offical version is .76. I have upgraded to .103 and i don't find much difference between the two. .103 is a little more buggy and has frozen on me more often and the accelerometer is a little more touchy and it's slightly faster. The camera is alot faster on .103 though. All in all it's a very minor upgrade between .76 and .103.

As for Slydial i can't see much use for it. If i don't want to talk to them i'll text them. That's what i do when i don't want to talk to my mom ;) (she just retired so has a lot of time on her hands ;))

I'm in business so the direct Voicemail is particularly effective as a means to communicate with a voice message, having the ability to do so without engaging in conversation. It is much more effective than a text message and faster to accomplish. Txt msgs. are limited in content by design, and emails usually require a computer (not everyone carries a Blackberry with them).

As for the official update from Verizon, it had better be a good one, encompassing all of the positive software improvements of the various leaked versions. It would be a good thing if they could also eliminate the annoyances and glitches. You'd think this update would be an "all-to-for!" They're certainly taking their time with it. Hint: The camera should work l...
