That sounds like server/port settings. Might want to check with Yahoo and see what they are supposed to be. Or someone here might know. -cw-

Basically, all I can see on my XV6700 in the dark is the blue -- the "primary" action of each key. Those are bright enough, though I wish I could lengthen the timeout. The secondary stuff (punctuation, numbers...) are barely backlit at all, and so poorly as to be useless. To the extent that I can see any lighting there, it's still blue. -cw-

From looking at the HTML source for my banks login page, it's Javascript. Form has name=FormX. Login button has onclick=FormX.submit(). On the XV6700, clicking the login button does nothing. Could be wrong, but it sure looks to me like basic Javascript support is broken, or missing completely. [time passes...] Some Googling around indicates that others have hit the same problems that that it's generally due to Javascript support only up to v1.5 and no Java support ...

SSL works fine. Cookies work fine. Haven't specifically tested Java or Javescript yet. I know what you're talking about though, because I can't login to my bank site either. I suspect Java and/or Javascript are unsupported. My bets are on Java (knowing the whole Micro$oft vs. Java saga). -cw-

No one else has hit problems with POP3/IMAP4 and the built-in email client? No praiseworthy alternative email software either? Please, if you know anything... This problem is really driving me batty and rendering the device near useless for doing email. -cw-

The way I see it, I'm just making my 6700 behave like the 6600 did. (The XV6600 didn't constantly reconnect.) And no joy from talking to customer support, so I found my own solution. Honestly, I'm a little shocked it was so easy! My suspicion is that this setting was just an oversight on Verizon's part and that had they been paying attention, they would've set AlwaysOn=1. (Then again, this is the same company that adopted PPPoE for ...

I have to hold down the power button for 1 - 2 seconds to turn off/on the backlight on the XV-6700. If your phone is behaving much different than that, then it may need "special attention." Anyway, I've shut off the backlight by accident a few times, but got used to it. There are countless devices these days which have buttons that behave differently depending on whether you click them, or hold them down. I suspect we're ...

You're at least partly right. Sorry, I should've tried to be more helpful. At the same time, you'll get more help if you ask properly. I don't mean begging on your knees, but just presenting as much info as you can about where you are stuck and what you have tried. For instance "I tried to install the program and got an error" is about useless. No one can give you specific help with that. ...

From playing with the new AlwaysOn=1 setting for a few hours, I've found two things will clobber your data session: 1. Inbound or outbound phone calls will interrupt an EVDO session. (Old news, but included here for sake of completeness.) 2. Docking the phone to your PC. (Tested USB sync. Not sure about Bluetooth sync.) Since I set AlwaysOn=1, only docking the phone has caused the "Connecting..." balloon to pop up after I undock and attempt to reach the Internet. ...

I was a SprintPCS customer waaay back when. Price was good, but coverage wasn't so good. I could never make/receive calls at my house. Then SprintPCS turned into Sprint, and I moved to a new house, but still I couldn't use the phone at the new house! After several years of lousy coverage, I left them for Verizon. Sprint even tried to keep me around by sending me a new phone for free. ...

There is a way to insert "soft" pauses (2 seconds) by entering "p" in the number. So for instance, I've got *86pp1234 (where "1234" is not my real PIN) programmed as my VZW voicemail number. Not sure about "hard" pauses, but that probably works too. As for the voice activated dialing by bluetooth, there's a registry hack for that (I've not personally tried it.) Of course you have plop down $30 for the voice activation software. ...

Problems with POP3/IMAP email on XV6700
Feb 27, 2006, 11:37 PM
in the UTStarcom PPC-6700 / XV-6700 / HTC Apache forum

Early results with POP3 to my home mail server (Linux/Dovecot) were good. Then one day the phone decided it wasn't going to show me any new messages. Existing mail in my inbox was still visible, but nothing new. So I switched to IMAP4. Again, early results were good, then one day I had no mail at all in my inbox! Next day I had half my messages. Then no mail again. Then ...

I found a registry hack for the XV6700 to fix this. ...At least early results are promising. Since setting this key and resetting the phone, I've seen no more annoying "connecting..." balloons. Not trying to be mean, but if you can't even install a registry editor, or adequately explain "an error" to others, you probably shouldn't be hacking your registry. It's an inherently dangerous thing to do. For those who know how, and understand the risks, no big deal. But it's not an exercise for those who need handholding through every step. There's a reason it's called "hacking." -cw-

Odd. Maybe try downloading the .cab file directly with IE on your 6700. It doesn't matter where the file is located on your device, although somewhere on the storage card or under My Documents is recommended just for sake of neatness and sanity... You might be downloading a corrupted version of the application. Perhaps you should try another download site? I got my copy from freewareppc.com and it worked fine. -cw-

I was told last night by the manager at the Annapolis, MD store that it won't be stocked in store until the 19th and even then, to call first before coming in. I don't have any reason to doubt his word. Obviously you could put in a web order and you may or may not get it before the 19th. Does anyone actually have an XV6700 (purchased in the store or on the web) in their hot little ...

I don't say this kind of thing often, but TCPMP rocks!! Beats the snot out of WMP9 and from what I've seen, it's simply the best media player for the pocket PC. Plays all sorts of formats right out of the box, including MPEG. You might be surprised to find that some files play well enough under TCPMP that they don't need to be converted first! The one thing that briefly stumped me was figuring out which ...

I tried the sites you mentioned and see what you mean. AOL did shoddy browser detection and says "you must upgrade your browser." Bad on AOL. Ureach presents a homepage where all the text is contained in images, which Pocket IE dutifully scales down to unreadable. Bad on Ureach and Micro$oft. Sadly, these kinds of problems are all too common in a world full of over-zealous web developers with tunnelvision. Maybe some day they will ...

(Standard battery is 5.2mm thick.) These people look like they really know what they're doing and I'm planning to get one. Has anybody else bought this particular battery? If so, can you please tell us how it worked out? -cw-

pekoe said: My ISP uses Squirrelmail and I cannot access it from Mobile Web 2.0. Ugh. :( Any ideas about why this is? If you flat-out "cannot access it", then that sounds like lack of cookie support to me. Which has me wondering again... Is Mobile Web 2.0 just WAP with extra cheese (marketing), or does this phone have an actual web browser for browsing actual web sites? Hey Verizon: If I'm going to spend $300+ for a phone ...

Stupid questions about the VX9800
Dec 5, 2005, 12:26 PM
in the LG V VX-9800 forum

I'm thinking hard about getting one of these. I like the big landscape mode screen, the keyboard, Bluetooth, Mobile Web, stereo speakers, playing mpeg4 video from the miniSD card, etc. Yes, I know it's not a PDA. It's more of an "entertainment phone" (and I wrinkle my nose when I say that...) But that's OK, I never fully utilized the PDAs I've had. I mostly use the address book, type in the occasional quick ...

in the LG V VX-9800 forum

Well, I hesitate to jump in, as I haven't touched a vx9800 yet, but here goes... I think the design problem is that the speakers are inside the clamshell. When you close the phone, the speakers are highly obstructed and would be useless for a speakerphone. That being the case, the engineers went for "ease of use" and just made the speakerphone come on when you open the clamshell. No extra buttons or menu options needed. Love it ...
