in the Article: MetroPCS CDMA Network to Go Dark in June forum

Using CDMA in the US pretty much made us a little island with this proprietary technology, while the rest of the world had GSM. Sprint are the a-holes that got CDMA started in the US, followed by Verizon. It's taken 15 years to catch up and be on a worldwide standard. I wouldn't of had such a problem with CDMA if these US carriers would have used RIM cards like they do in Asia where you ...

Good, glad they're shutting down their CDMA network. Get rid of that garbage. GSM is the way to go. At least it's not locked down where you can't use a phone from a different carrier like CDMA.

Why not? Granted it's not a $700 phone like 90% of the other phones out there, it's $180. Maybe that's why someone would buy it. It just goes to show how much they markup these latest and greatest phones when they retail them for $700 or more. So why would you not buy it? What's wrong with it?

Ironic how Kyocera has a program for soldiers to use phone service overseas even though 95% of their own phones won't work overseas since they're CDMA and the vast majority of the rest of the world uses GSM. /;| If they used GSM themselves, they could just directly donate used phones to soldiers to use overseas. I guess their donation lets a soldier use a Samsung, LG, Motorola, and just about all other brands that ...

in the Article: Sprint Offering Open Enrollment for Insurance Program forum

Sprint has the worst coverage and the worst, pretty much, everything-plans, rates, add on features, etc. I wouldn't have Sprint even if they were the only carrier around. But I definitely wouldn't have that insurance.

Oh boy!
Mar 7, 2015, 1:25 PM
in the Article: Sprint Offering Open Enrollment for Insurance Program forum

Sprint is extending their offer of one of the biggest rip offs in the industry-phone insurance, in my opinion. It used to be a decent deal like 8 years ago. They had only a $50 deductible and cost around $5 a month. They kept upping their prices and deductibles and now it's a total joke. You pay $12 a month and a $200 deductible for a refurbished (used) POS phone that 7 times out of ...

It's part of their design. They actually want high turnover for whatever reason. Maybe they don't have to contribute to 401k or pensions, so they think that'll save them money. I read somewhere that it costs a company about $5,000 per person to advertise, test, interview, hire, fill out paperwork, and train a new hire. Apparently the company has decided that a revolving door with reps lasting about 9 months before quitting and being replaced ...

Re: device financing

It's six of one, half dozen of the other. You pay off your phone and it'll run about $300 to $400 dollars. You pay off your break fee and you'll pay $350. It all works out about the same whether you do device financing or ETF. The only difference I noticed is the retail prices of phones went way down when they began offering device financing. There was an LG flip phone that retailed ...

1. Any company that makes their customers wait 1 to 3 hours for anything doesn't deserve to be in business. 2. They don't care what you think. Their bean counters decided it was a good idea to get rid of service techs, so that's that. They've got money to make and dealing with your phone problems isn't their concern. 3. You want business support, go to Verizon or AT&T or T-Mobile. 4. You want the iphone 6, again go to ...

Re: USC Predictions
Sep 14, 2014, 1:20 PM
in the U.S. Cellular forum

Well I would predict that USCC gets bought out, but I don't think any of the big carriers are interested in them at this point. The company is a textbook example about how a company went from being a great customer service, employee satisfaction company to pure garbage in just a matter of months. The company is too interested in their stock price and Wall Street to care about anything else and their stock performance shows it. ...

Good points. I agree that the company started the downward spiral as soon as Rooney stepped down. The liberal Carlson family decided that political correctness was more important than competency in their search for their next CEO. They decided to hire a woman with zero cellular experience who worked in marketing at McDonald's as their next CEO. The Carlson's don't want to be innovative in anything regarding the industry they are in. Instead, they ...

I found this sheet from our TOPS training and looking back on what it says, it's such a complete lie and fraud, but here is the first paragraph in their BS from last year's training. Tells me that "confidence in the company, its owner and each other" isn't being followed by the big wigs at corporate. They don't practice what they preach. Several execs dumped their stock in May (http://seekingalpha.com/article/2210243-unit ed-states-cellular-3-different-insiders-have- sold-shares-this-month) They are dumping stock because they have no confidence in the company they run. You are right. I apologize to all the 3rd graders out there to say they would make something as crappy as TOPS. I'm assuming TOPS was made in some 3rd world country like Nigeria, New Guinea, or Haiti where English is not their primary language. You nailed it. The USS Cellular struck an iceberg back in July/Aug '13 and has been sinking ever since. They implemented a billing system that was supposedly in development for around 5 years, but it must have been developed by 3rd graders as a class project. What a joke. That system still crashes constantly and all the other side programs tied to it crash too like MyAccount and Rewards Mgt Tool, *228, and everything else. And instead ...

Tops still crashes once in a while and there are still constant problems with MyAccount, *228, bills not being right, incorrect data overcharges, etc. So, it's still a nightmare, but not as bad as when you left. To me it seems they are coming apart at the seams and it really went into effect when that garbage TOPS launched untested. The company was not doing great before, but now it's coming apart as a result of all the internal errors of this system as well as how slow it runs when using it. Transactions that took 10 minutes in the old system can now take up to an hour. Now customers wait 2 ...

Not sure why nobody has talked about USCC for a while now. It's just as horrible as you might imagine. You thinking USCC being around 3-5 years from now? I'd say more likely 3-5 months at best! I think you mean commission not commotion right? I can't really say how much you'll make. Are you full or part time? Depends on how much traffic is in your store. I know the pay is tiered. If you make 0 to like 60% of your quota, you get $X per add. Renewals you get $8, so that's easy. But the tiered thing is hard to follow. I think if you ...

Seems like US Cellular is in constant, perpetual damage control. All you hear is "we're sorry this happened" or "we're sorry that happened." The company has gone so far downhill in the past 5 years. Now all they're interested in is the bottom line, squeezing every last penny they can get out of everything. All the tools are old, worn out and dilapidated. They have become the Dollar General of the cell industry-just plain junk. ...

I think the fine print in the contract says something to the effect "prices/plans subject to change without notice" is their way out of any lawsuit. Buyout?
Aug 21, 2013, 11:51 PM
in the U.S. Cellular forum

Does anything think US Cellular is ripe for a buyout? Their flop of a billing system sure seems like that's where it's all leading to. I think they expected the billing system to save the company, but turns out it's destroying the company. I'm thinking their best bet is to sell now before they lose all their customers. Anyone else?

US Cellular is writing their own obituary. They did some over the air update that really messed up Samsung smart phones-especially GS3s. A huge amount of their customers can't get signal now-a big strike one. Second, they shut down their computer system to switch to a new one. It was down for like 4 days entirely. Third, the new billing system doesn't work and they had to shut down their system for another 3 ...

You mean Belief Project=Fail We'll have to see if this Meyers guy is as big of an idiot as the last prez. Putting contracts back in place sure isn't going to help matters. All it's going to do is get customers to think they were lied to and then want to cancel. Hopefully they get rid of that worthless "getting to know your customers" book that is a total waste of paper and trees.

It's called deceit. You lead your employees with lies and deceit and don't allow for any questioning of the official corporate line. If corporate says jump, you are to ask "how high?" Do not think for yourself and do not question anything. Do not rock the boat if you know what's best for you. If they cut staffing, you are to work just that much harder to pick up the slack and you are ...

That's just a drop in the bucket. She actually made over $4 million last year all while losing customers for the company she led. http://investing.businessweek.com/researc h/stocks/people/person.asp?personId=11418764& ticker=USM&previousCapId=30771&previousTitle= LEVEL%203%20COMMUNICATIONS%20INC That's a lot of money to not have any "business results" that she pressured all her subordinates to achieve. This company is the only place I know of where you can actually be fired for following the rules they've implemented. Like they changed the equipment timer to a max of 4 months you can upgrade early, however, if you actually enforce that rule to a customer, the customer can call in and complain and then you'll be explaining yourself to your manager. Another example, you aren't supposed to waive activation fees, so if you do you're ...

I can definitely see all the lies and how they tell you one thing and do another. For example, "winning" is one of their code words, but they are anything but winning. Selling off 1/10 your customer base doesn't sound like winning to me. In fact, I'm sick of all these code words that get pounded in our heads everyday just like propaganda. They literally pound in our heads, like you would do to a ...

I agree. They are trying to get the maximum amount of work done by the minimum amount of staffing. Now they are rolling out TOPS training in addition to our business prospect calling and CLCP calling and they don't care. You are expected to take all 30 trainings and make all your daily calls and do all your technical service problem solving and still hit your daily numbers. Waiting lines are never ending. They ...

I'd say you're right. It's not the end till the end. I think they are in desperate times at corporate. They are going to start axing jobs, but of course keep their bonuses. I also wondered why the additional layoffs/restructuring wasn't mentioned on their quarterly conference call. I think it's too late, but corporate thinks if they cut jobs here and there it will keep them afloat. All they are doing is postponing ...

Looks like it's only disclosing some partnership they have with Verizon in NY in the St. Lawrence Seaway rural service area. USCC also has a small investment with Verizon in Los Angeles of like 10% too. They have several investments with Verizon from what I've gathered. If they got bought out, it would be all over the internet and not just a small hidden paper buried on their website. Just like when they sold off ...

I heard we are going to start charging $10 to transfer pics for customers, unless they buy a memory card. Wow this company is just like the big 4 in virtually every regard. The company is basing its entire future on their Getting to Know Your Customer books. They think if you ask enough questions you will get sales left and right. In reality you need to have the products and services that sell themselves. You can ask questions all day long and if you don't have what the customer wants, it's all for nothing.
