Great update for the hero!

Dec 4, 2010 by grumpybutt

The HTC Wildfire (or HTC Bee...) is a wonderful entry level Android phone. It is also the only phone in Alltel's line up that is going to be receiving 2.2 Froyo in the future. It was a big plus for me when choosing this phone. I was previously on the HTC Hero before going to the Wildfire. The biggest improvement I noticed is the processor speed seems to be much improved. Also, the battery life isn't as bad as what it was on the Hero. I still find myself charging it once a day and once at night, but no where near as much as I charged my hero.

The screen clarity is amazing. The touch screen response is great too. I'm disappointed that no one makes a great case for this phone just yet. I don't want a silicone case for the phone. I would like to see an Otterbox made for this phone however.

The camera quality is amazing. I'm glad they added an LCD flash to this one! No flash on the Hero made life difficult.

The FM radio feature doesn't work, so it was a waste of time and space. I'm better off downloading Pandora.

Overall, I'm happy with the phone. It has it's hiccups every now and then, but all smartphones do. They're not made to be kept on 24-7 without a battery pull. With that in mind, that's why I chose to rate it a 4.0.

HTC Wildfire

Pros - Android Phone, lots of free applications, good clarity on calls, easy text messaging with speech once you figure out which application works

Cons-Battery life is really bad, reception outside of city limits horrible or none at all. I have had 4 of these phones and finally the Alltel Rep talked me into a screen protector and a gel case. This helped the "jumpy" screen and going to applications a lot, however, the phone will power down or shut off intermittently and also even gets no service even while right in the city. I use my phone on the interstate and main highways...all of our other phones have worked well, If you want a toy--not a cell phone, get this. Also the Internet does not work when the signal is gone.

I got this phone under the pretense that it was going to be updated to the new froyo system in a month or so ( so I was told by the sales lady). The battery life sucks. It will no stay charged for no longer than 4 or 5 hours. This is when not using it. It has no memory and since no update no way to change this. Phone hangs up when you try to call.

Slow processor- not fast enough

I gave this phone 3.5 instead of a lower rating, only because I love the HTC software. it is extremely easy to use and slick!
This phone has 1/2 the RAM and 1/2 the processor of it's sister/brother? the Desire, making it slower and sometimes won't even run some apps!
I didn't have this phone very long, but That was the main problem I had. Everything else with this phone was pretty great. It IS HTC, afterall!
