Great Sound Quality, but...

Sep 15, 2010 by dlb515

My father has extreme hearing problems, and after receiving this Pantech phone he said he heard far better with it than any other phone he has ever had. My dad gives this phone a 5* rating as far as being able to hear the person your talking to. But because the phone has many downsides to it, we dropped the rating to only 2.5.
The ringtones on this phone are very soft & quiet! Did they forget this phone is suppose to be for the hard of hearing??? There needs to be some type of loud ringer sound or loud buzzer sound. It doesn't even have bluetooth so we can't even download a ringtone he can hear! What good is a phone if you can't hear it ring?! For this reason he decided to return this phone and try the LG Wine II instead; to which he likes a whole lot more. He says he can hear with it as well as the pantech because of its high quality hearing aid compatibility function. Ringtones are louder too. It also has bluetooth, large text and buttons.

Pros:
High quality earpiece sound
Wonderful at knocking out background noise
Displays large text
Large keys to punch
Simple interface for the elderly
Dedicated speakerphone, alarm and pic buttons
Dedicated personal emergency numbers button
Dedicated 911 button

Cons:
No bluetooth!
Large side buttons, which are too easy to press, which causes the backlight to stay on while wearing in pocket. Zaps battery fast.
The voice command is too quiet to hear.
Very poor (blurry) camera quality.
No phone covers available for this phone. Would have been nice to have to help prevent side buttons from being pressed while in pocket.
If the ringers would have been louder, my dad would have kept this phone.

I LOVE THIS PHONE!!!

I'm not one to pay a lot of money for a cell phone (I usually take the free phone that comes with my contract renewal), but I opted to pay the small fee for this one because of the large keypad and font. I have great sound quality and signal wherever I go. I did have a problem with the first one I got (I had it for less than 24 hours)..the back kept falling off. When the salesman exchanged it, he said there were several others in the back that did the same thing. But he did find one for me that latched securely. I also would prefer if the screen did not stay lit while the phone charges. This is the first phone I've ever had that actually does that. In a time where cell phone keypads and buttons are getting smaller and smaller, this is a welcome change.
