(part 2)

Also with the Photos, now they have gotten rid of the classic Image Viewer and there's this photo app. It's annoying though b/c like the gallery, it shows you ALL the pics on the phone. Not handy if you've take a few you don't want like your mother, for instance, to see. You can only mess around with folders in the File Manager, and if you create albums in the photo app, they don't seem to be visibile anywhere in the file manager.

Another MAJOR flaw is how when you lock the phone, the screen goes BLANK. totally. It won't revert to the screensaver. It just goes BLACK. It's really annoying. I can't just peek over at my phone and see who called me. I have to actually unlock it or touch a button. FIX THIS WITH A FIRMWARE UPDATE NOKIA!!!!

Also, the screen is MUCH worse in direct light that the one on my 6682. Did they go backwards with their technology!?

The BIGGEST flaw Nokia have done with this phone, and IMHO will all their new phones, is with the OS.

It's sleek, it's pretty fast and it's efficient.

But I can't put ANY of the great symbian apps I had on my last phone onto this one, not because it's a different version... but b/c now all apps have to have a SIGNED certificate.

how is this friendly to the developer world? they have to fork out a ton of money to get their apps signed. I can't install any of my old favorite apps.

The only way to do it, I have read, is to HACK THE PHONE. I just got this phone UNLOCKED for a reason - so I can out whatever I like on it - and now I have to HACK the phone as well just to put whatever I please onto it? To hack the phone, I have to go through this super difficult process of using a bunch of different programs and file viewers and requesting a certificate signing based on my IMEI....... LAME

THAT'S PATHETIC NOKIA.

I want apps, I want them to be free or cheap. I want options. I want it to be seamless.

Maybe I will drop this phone after 6 months and get an iphone after all... *sigh* you have really let me down Nokia

good phone, disappointing OS

I love Nokia phones.

Previously, I owned a Nokia 6682 smartphone. I loved that thing. I used it for *3* years. It wa starting to feel a but clunky next to my friend's shiny new phones, and the battery was finally giving up, so I upgraded.

My first thought was for a Nokia. I like the iphone, but I don't really want a touch screen.

the N79 reminded me a lot of a sexier, thinner 6682.

But, there are some CRITICAL flaws.

First, in the design:

The keypad is a serious design flaw. I like how it looks, but the numbers are arranged in bars, not individual keys, so it's sometimes hard to tell what number you're pressing, especially if you're trying to text without looking. I do that a lot.

The arrangement of the menu and clear buttons are also inconvenient and I often press them by accident. It's annoying, and I haven't been able to get used to it after using the phone for 2 months.

Critically, there is ZERO space between the bottom buttons and the edge of the phone, which makes it very difficult for a person with average=larger sized hands like myself to reach those bottom keys while holding the phone in one hand. If i didn't mind using two hands on my phone all the time, I would have gotten an iphone!

So there are some annoyances with the OS as well.

The first comes from the photos.

I love the 5MP camera, but you can't realistically send an image that big to just anyone's phone via MMS. you have to go into photos and resize it, or set the pictures to always take at a lower resolution. it would be nice to have a feature that automatically resizes for you when you send it.

the phone is amazing it has everything you need even though you might not need most of the features or use them.

Pros:
-camera takes amazing pictures
-gps works great
-bluetooth is faster...i didnt notice
-FM transmitter is good for the car
-came with a 4gb memory
-geotagging pictures is cool, but you have to be in open spaces for the satellite to catch signal
-too many features to list

Cons:
-camera could be better
-gps could locate you faster
-crashed too many times...did a hard rest (brought back to the factory setting and now it works great)
-flash ruins the photo for some reason
-keyboard could be better

overall its a great phone would recommend anyone to buy it
