Ok phone, but

Sep 4, 2007 by Mr. x-ray

Nice cute phone but if you have large fingers this phone is not for you. Keys are to small. The music player is ok, but does not compare to my IPOD. The voice dial system does not consistantly work. With the small keys this presents a problem. The camera is great. Very clear and sharp. I wish LG offered a phone with an internal antenna and no music player. Overall this is a good phone with clear sound but not one I would purchase for text messages or one hand operation.

Love this phone

I Love Love Love this phone!

Pro's:
*Great Reception! I have VZW and live way out in the sticks of Wheeling WV... I own the 9900, the 5300, the u740, and the moto Q... and so far this has the best reception!
*Music Player- can listen to music and the phone is still functional! I can play games, edit contacts, send/receive text messages all while the music plays! Awesome feature! Plus, I can use a 4GB mem card.
*Also, pairs nicely with stereo bluetooth headset... i literally leave the phone on a desk/table and walk around (at times further than 30ft) and still have clear music quality! Very impressive!
*New unlock key and music key. Don't have to open phone to navigate through music selection. Very Cool!
*Send and End buttons moved to key pad... excellent improvement! Plus, the key's are slightly rounded to the touch, making it much easier to text on compared to the 8500.
*Vibrating touch sense... love it.
*Its pretty! When it powers up and rings the lights dance around the touch pad.

Cons:
*No flash on the camera. A huge bummer... but in good lighting the 1.3 mega pixel camera takes crisp clear pix.
*If the phone touches your face while on a call the soft keys will click and vibrate... they do not affect the call or cause any problems, but it is a big annoying.

Over all I give this phone 5 stars! And highly recommend it to anyone who wants a multimedia device that can compete with any mp3 player!

Hot Chocolate

This phone is worth checking out if you're looking to get a new phone. I am super satisfied, I am so happy I went with this model. I watched the "in depth" video after I got the phone but I would suggest you go play it. It;s a great video and it basically highlights all the cool features of this phone.

Chocolate just got hotter!!

I love this new version of the chocolate. The display is huge an super crisp and clear. It's a delight to look at. The music is such high quality, I use it instead of carrying my ipod with me. Camera is very nice too.

excellent music phone

Upgraded from the awful Razr so this phone is a definite improvement. Like most have stated, this phone excels at being both a cell phone and a music player. The user interface is the best that Verizon has ever put out. Other than a few minor quirks such as the touch sensitive buttons and slightly plasticky build, it is by far the best Verizon phone I've ever used.

Great Phone, Sub-Par UI

I suppose that I was spoiled by my previous phone, a Motorola E815. Don't get me wrong: I love the LG VX-8550. It's a sleek-looking phone with excellent reception and responsiveness. Unfortunately, the user interface kinda hurts the experience.

A ridiculously poor UI design (custom Verizon Wireless UI, of course) simply makes it inconvenient to access features that could otherwise streamline things.

For instance, you know that there's something horribly wrong when it takes you several buttons presses just to access the speed dials. And that's before you even select a speed dial! Sure, you can search based on contact name from the regular contacts screen, but that requires more button presses, since it doesn't take into consideration the speed dial numbers that you've assigned.

Furthermore, some menu items simply aren't where you'd expect them to be. Accessing My Account through your handset involves going into the Settings & Tools menu, rather than going into the Get It Now section. That's a bit questionable, seeing as how My Account uses the Mobile Web 2.0 browser, which I consider to be another application. Sure, the browser was in a separate place on my E815, but it was much convenient in its placement.

And what's the deal with the inconsistent navigation? Some apps allow you to scroll by spinning the wheel, while others require you to actually press the navigation directions. And the wheel won't always select items that're to the left or right of your current selection, which can be annoying. And I find it odd that you hear different sound effects when scrolling on different screens.

Still, despite these gripes, I love the phone. Again, it's very sleek-looking, and everything's very responsive. And I'd never tried V Cast before, so I must say that I'm impressed with this phone's capabilities so far. Voice calls are very clear, and the speaker is great.

All in all, this is a very nice phone. I just wish that I could get a different UI for it.

blue 8550 it rules until the screen goes

Unlike most phones, i'd rate them bad because of the performance like say the hinge breaking. It is still a very nice phone. I dropped this thing many times and it survived. Very nice lock key, it can lock your keys it is real nice.

The screen failed on this device. Two replacement models. The first one since it came out and 1 day later the screen was messed up because i was going to my friends house on my cycle and it started raining. I dried it and even sadly yelled at it lol t0 have it to start working, but sadly the screen failed. It all worked if you knew what you were doing when you navigated it. The screen still worked just had lines on almost all of the parts of the screen. Lil parts displayed but not enough to see what I'd be doing. I got the new replacement phone and i dropped it and it broke on the screen. I had the first chocolate for a tiny longer and its screen got broken. I honestly can say the 8550 has more features including a cool scroll wheel then what the "brick of chocolate 8500" had lol. Yes of the 8500 being a brick, it was sure durable and never broke apart from a drop. Chocolate is still a good phone by all means, and i may go for the chocolate touch. I have the intensity at the moment

Good solid phone

I've had this phone for over a year now, and have very few problems with it. The slider is still in excellent condition, and operates just as did when I first got it. I've had no problems with the soft keys. However, the chrome around the edge is almost completely worn off, and the keys are worn down to the metal in places (expected due to usage).
The only severe problem I've had with it is that sometimes, it shuts off for no reason, and when I turn it back on, it doesn't say I've missed any calls, even if I have.
