It might be my favorite thing on the planet.

Feb 8, 2008 by Todd

Well, I got this last May, and I can't say I've had a complaint about it yet. I'd been considering it since I first saw it back last February or so.

Pros:

It's roughly the same size as a Razr, which is a huge plus.

The music player is pretty awesome. You can put in any Micro SD card in it, so it'll hold a lot of your music. And it has bluetooth, which is always fun.

When I'm at school, I get four bars of data coverage, which is as good as it gets.

It's fun to flip it both ways in front of someone who's never seen it before, because it kinda freaks them out.

I love it.

Cons:
It was kinda slow and sluggish for a while, but I took it to Verizon and they updated the software for me for free. Now it works great!

The text message inbox only holds fifty messages. Which isn't a HUGE deal, but I like to save messages that make me laugh. And being in college, I seem to get a lot of those on Saturday nights. =P

Those are my only real complaints. Don't try and open it both ways. You'll break it. I did it before I got the phone when I was at a store. Then I ran out.

The camera doesn't take the greatest pictures. But it's a phone. It gets the job done.

Overall, I would say that I love it. Buy it.

Simply Genius

This phone is great. Music player, great txting keyboard, sound reception, slim, almost everything you need. The camera takes not the greatest pictures, but the pics are alright. I especially like the display screen on the front, even though most phones have them and your probably thinking im a nutcase, however my previous phone did not have one, so i think its pretty cool. The dual flip style is also cool. Texting is much easier also than a normal flip phone because you do have the QWERTY keyboard. I recomend, however, for a first phone, do not start with this. It may be a bit more complicated than a brand new cell phone user would want, but you could get used to it. Simply put, this is a great all-round phone

i love it

I got this phone a few days ago and absolutely love it. Its small, has a qwerty keyboard. All the pros and everythign have been listed billions of times already but here are my issues with it

-its terrible for texting with the regular keys, and you cant add words to t9 word.

-shitty battery life: okay some people bitch and moan because htey make calls all day long and listen to music and have to charge once a week. No. This battery life is terrible. For instance today i talked on it for MAYBE ten mins and send several texts, and its at half battery. My lg vx8300, i could texxt all day long and maybe one bar missing. I could not charge it for 3 days. This phone is everynight needing a charge, not that i dont anyways haha.

those are basically my only gripes with it. I would keep it except for the fact that the enV dropped to 79 dollars so im exchanging this for the enV tomorrow. The only reason i gave it a 4.5 is cause of the horrible slow texting on the regular keys, i text really fast and it only takes like every other key push with the rate i push them, and the no adding words to word? thats just weird.

built to last yet has its cons

Jan 4, 2008 by Kittykat345

ok so to start it off, i think this phone was very much built to last. My hinges are perfect and haven't broke like i thought they were. I have very bad patience with phones and throw them alot. This phone has withheld all the abuse i show to it. The only part that broke was the battery cover but they sent me a new one easily. I really like it because i text ALOT. And its wonderful for texting :) props to samsung.

PROS:
- texting ability
- once pictures are sent to the computer they are really good.
- your option of which mode you want to text in (ether flipped up or flipped to the side)
- Allows you to put MP3 songs on it and as a high school student i really like that
- always has amazing service. i think the only place I've faced trouble is the basment of my school thats about it.
- choice of all different displays for your phone. theres tons.

CONS:
- Battery time lasted not long at all. Ive had my phone for about 8 months now and I'm always having problems with the battery
- when i plug in my charger sometimes it will pop up right away to say its charging .. sometimes it takes up to 15 mins to show its charging.
- The [HOLD] key (which disables and enables the touch screen MP3 player on the front) frequently becomes disabled in my pocket and the touch screen with enable and start playing songs in my pocket during class.. (which has often gotten me in trouble) so i ended up taking the MP3 songs off my phone.
- The back always falls off my phone with the slightest touch, so i tapped it until i got a new backing.

I AM NOT HOW I THOUGHT I WOULD BE!!

I dislike this phone very very much this is my third Samsung Sch-u740!!I HAVE owned this phone for about 5 months and i am upset with it.... And the guy at verizon said that it goes in mercedes and i have 3 so i asked him witch ones, and he said the ml, c-class, and gl...... AND IT DOES NOT!!!!!!!! The phone i had just ordered on the other hand does because my wife has it... That phone is the lg voyager (10000) it is great!

Cons on the samsung

when you turn it to open it to the full qwerty keyboard the hinges are not that tight

the ringtones are low

the keys are way to small.

pros

the screen is bright

and they come in 2 different colors.. (gold, black)

A Pretty Amazing Phone

Dec 26, 2007 by michael_herc

This phone is a pretty amazing phone. Most people that see it want to play with it and are mesmerized by it. They can't believe that it can open two different ways. Sure, after a while the hinges start to get a little wobbly, but it's NOT anything noticeable hardly at all. The voice quality on the phone is amazing and it picks up great reception. The only real problems that I've had so far would be that for some reason, when I have full service of 1X, I'll only have like 1-2 bars of EV-DO. I'm not sure if this is just my phone or with a lot of phones, but the only ways I've found to fix it are by either shutting the phone off, using the internet, dialing *228 option 1, or resetting the phone. Most of the time, using the internet will make the phone realize that it really has full EV-DO service and that it's being stupid.

PROS:
1) Form factor is amazing
2) Awesome Call Quality
3) Picks up good signal
4) Texting is a breeze in landscape mode
5) Bluetooth is really easy to connect and sounds good

CONS:
1) EV-DO signal reader is messed up (sometimes)
2) Some keys are hard to get to
3) Verizon's UI (Although Customizable)

Pathetic phone

Dec 23, 2007 by Briefly-Stated

Had this phone for a while, the keypad became loose, the hinges became mis-aligned and my alert sounds quit working. I received a 2nd U740 and the phone would not charge.

Ended up returning and getting an LG enV VX9900, the difference in quality, sound, texting is amazing. Take it from me, I have had both and the U740 unfortunately does make the grade.

Great Phone!!!

I've had this phone for a several months now so after tons of usage, I thought it would be appropriate to give a review.
Pros:
-great look and design. It has a wow factor
-very thin considering the funcionality of the phone
-great operating system
-excellent voice reception even with an internal antenna
-seems to be very sturdy considering the dual hindge design
-charges very quickly
-excellent volume; it seems to adjust according to my environment (or it could just be me)
-very good camera resolution; it has a flash that actually improves the quality of the picture in darker lit environments
-voice recognition works perfectly without any hick-ups
-great for messaging
-can use speakerphone with flap closed
-speakerphone is very loud and sensitive without distortion
-the ringers are very loud
-doesn't seem to have any software bugs that I know of
-bluetooth connected quickly without indident

Cons:
There aren't many that I can think of, but here are a few.
-battery life could be a lot better
-EVDO reception seems to be lower than my last phone (LGVX8300), but doesn't seem to affect the speed.
-keys are very small and took some getting used to, but now I'm a pro
-ringer selection when I initially purchased the phone was abysmal

Even with these minor issues, the u740 is probably the best phone I've ever owned during my seven year tenure with Verizon Wireless. I have had the least problems with this phone than I've had with any other phone.

worth EVERY penny!

i've had this phone for about 24 hours now, & already i am 100% satisfied with it! i started off my contract with Verizon with the LG VX9400 and loved it, but was afraid i'd scratch up the screen, so i went to exchange it [i wanted the enV] but they didn't have it in stock, so i got stuck with the Motorola RAZRMAXX [FYI-it was HORRIBLE! definitely the worst phone i ever had. the UI was painfully slow-it's a miracle i didn't just snap it in half.] so i exchanged it AGAIN and got the Samsung SCH-U740 and i couldn't be happier!! you can scroll through the menus smoothly & quickly, the QWERTY keyboard is very handy [i'm still getting used to the layout of the keypad, but like i said, i've only had it for 24 hours], the sound quality is great, camera is very nice for a phone, holds a charge great [i got my phone right before i had to go into work, so i only got about an hour to charge it [it came half charged] and it wasn't completely done charging when i unplugged it, and was texting and playing with it for my entire 8 hour shift and i only lost 1 bar of battery.], the reception is EXCELLENT [i live in Orlando, FL], the dual-flip is VERY eyecatching and fun...some people think the hinge feels fragile or delicate, but i think it feels solid and secure, i'm not worried about it breaking, the hold button on the left side of the screen is very handy, the dial fonts you can change to [quill pen, post-it notes, rainbow] are very cool & the fact you can change the keypad tones [xylophone!] is also pretty neat, the UI doesn't lag at ALL when you're trying to quickly navigate through menus & messages...overall i think it's the BEST phone i've ever had. [SOOO glad i didn't get the LG enV like i *thought* i wanted!] i ended up getting this phone for $69.99 at Best Buy and it was DEFINITELY worth it. if you're trying to decide whether or not to buy it, GO FOR IT! you WON'T be disappointed! [just make sure you get it in black...the gold one is hideous.] THANK YOU SAMSUNG!

I Like the U740

Oct 29, 2007 by goheels

had this phone since Aug this year and so far its a keeper. my last phone was the Moto E815..hated that phone. one thing i did like about the E815 that the U740 does not do...i can turn the speaker on with the flip opened or closed and i could set a time for the speaker to cut off. oh how i wish this phone did that. some are concerned about the sturdiness of the phone. i have dropped this phone so many times and dropped it so hard this weekend that the back came off and the battery went flying across and guess what...phone still sturdy. i just knew the flip was loose. only reason i did not give this phone a 5 is because there are cons.

Pros:
-sound is GREAT. i could barely hear anyone on my E815. can't believe how clear this phone is. this is the best pro in my book. great reception.

-i can assign a ring tone to each contact as well as input info about them such as addresses. love that feature.

-the camera is a lot better than the E815.

-like the fact i can do voice record

-like the Qwerty

-downloaded ringtones can be heard on this phone. to hear a downloaded ringtone on the E815, the phone had to be in your lap. (i do wish though it was still a tad bit louder)

-cool display theme

-bluetooth capable (even though it tears up your battery but i can deal with it. just recharge the phone)

Cons:

-keyboard small but as everyone else says, you will get use to it.

-wish i can set an alarm to my voice record. if its on here, have not figured it out yet.

-does not alert me for missed calls. does alert for text messages and voicemail which i love. just wish they added that feature for missed call.

-there are other cons but i can't think of them right now. the cons for this phone are not that bad. its just i prefer these features that are not here. i do recommend this phone if you're looking at it.
