I've got the Verizon Krzr, and have had it for a few days now. I also debated much between the two phones as the features are so similar... as far as one could tell from messing with the store models. I chose the Krzr because it is a beautiful phone and the form factor is nice (no too long when open, has good weight, feels robust) the screens are slightly smaller, but I didn't feel that to be a problem.
Initial reaction, nice phone, easy to use. Can set each of the four directionals to your preference, unlike the razr. Sound quality was pretty good (both ear piece and speaker), camera decent, overall I liked. Liked...
A few things about the Krzr that you can't really experience in the store, rather through use, have begun to ups...

edit: oh, and by "access the media player while the phone is closed" I meant turn it on. As it stands you have to open the phone go to your media and start playback before you can close the phone and use the buttons on the front. Also, the vx8600 can review incoming text messages on the front screen using the front buttons... Krzr cannot.

8600 hands down... I sell Verizon phones and I've had the krzr since the day it came out. I love the look of the Krzr but the menu system lags really really bad and the camera sucks!! I've had an 8600 for two days now and the camera is WAY better plus the UI is lightning fast. If you use Vcast, it loads way way faster on the 8600.. 8600 has my vote

I'm really glad you posted this - I've been doing the same comparing for a few days now and will definitely be buying the 8600 either tomorrow or the day after.
