A verizon rep told me the Env will probably get the software update for tv when the other phones for tv are ready to launch. I wonder if this is true?

The phone has to have MediaFlo capabilities to get onto the soon-to-be released TV for "cell phones".
There was a rumor that the enV was going to have mediaFlo capabilities. But after it's launch, we haven't heard one word about the enV having the capability to watch "live TV" on like the new phones coming out.
If the enV indeed does have MediaFlo and can be "activated" with a software update, that would be excellent. I hope your rep was correct 😁

Unfortunately a softwear upgrade will not allow this phone to use the tv service. If you look at the photos of the phones they reviewd you will notice they both have fairly distinct antennas those antennas are used solely for the vcast tv because it is actually a dif type of signal. The ENV unfortunately is not physically capable of utilizing this feature. if your thinking about buying a new phone I would recomend holding off for about 3 months or so because if you recall when vcast first launched the 8000 came out for it and then about 2 months later they came out with thhe 8100, the best phone i have ever owned (and i have owned a few) the only thing i would ever recomend DO NOT GET MOTOROLA. anyone who buys a phone based on a name alone (...

You sure you weren't talking to a rep that was getting ready to go to lunch and would have said anything just to get you off the phone.

ok as I clearly spelled out in my prev post.
1. vcast tv is a digital television signal and not running on evdo (vcast)
2.the enV and all other vzw devices currently are not capable of picking up the frequency at which digital tv is broadcast
3. the reason I post here is because I usually know more than the average customer service rep who either doesn't understand you or made a false assumption before properly researching the info.
so one more time NO THE ENV WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO VCAST T.V.

Ok I will try to dumb this down a little.

I am a Verizon employee.

I investigate new products deeper than most verizon employees

If you call *611 from your cell or 1-800-922-0204 I would be one of the people who would answer the phone on the other end.

When i am not answering customers questions i spend my free time reading through tech reports and product release information

While reading this information one of the tidbits i noticed stated very clearly how the new technology worked and why it would only work with phones made specifically for it and no phones currently available have the physical requirements to pick up the signal for this service allow me to attempt to illustrate as basic english seems to elude (e·lude [e-l...

He's not the only one saying it. The reps you are talking to are probably just speculating as they most likely know nothing about the VCAST Mobile TV that is going to launch soon, let alone that it needs an entirely different handset to work. They probably assume, as most people would, that it will work/or can work with any VCAST phone. That is not the case. Believe what you want, but you'll find out soon enough.

Dear Steven,

I'm sorry your question hasn't been answered to your satisfaction. My name is Rene, and I am happy to assist you.

At this time the EN V is not Mobile TV compatible. There will be a software upgrade in the future that will enable this function.
Again I apologize for any misunderstanding.

We value your business and appreciate the opportunity to continue as your wireless service provider. Thank you for using Verizon Wireless products and services. Should you have additional questions or concerns, please reply to this e-mail.

Sincerely,

Rene

vzwempinut, I'm a telecommunications student, and what you are saying does seem to be correct to me too - that the enV will NOT be able to support the TV signal. Even if a software upgrade were released, it may put the application on the phone, but as far as I can also tell, the phone still doesn't have the necessary radio/antenna to actually receive the TV signal.
But my question is, since "peanut4" received an official letter, do you know if by chance there will be an updated hardware version of the enV that will be released?
Or, "peanut4," do you have any additional information on the enV that shows that an actual receiver is already built into the enV that simply hasn't been announced?

I am sorry I do not, but I did ask verizon how the antenna would work and they could not answer that question at that time. I am going on what verizon is telling me, this is not my own assumption. It is very early in the tv stage so time will tell. Hope it all works out!

Thanks DrunkMonkey for checking on this.
As has been said before, there was a rumor before the 9900 came out that it would have the MediaFlo chipset built onto the board, but with all of this contradictory information, it seems unlikely that the enV will be able to view Live TV. Perhaps others were mistaken about the phone, or rep's were mistaken about the question. Who knows. But, Definitively... The enV does not support Quallcomm's new MediaFlo Live TV service. 😒
