Hey everyone,
I've noticed a strange problem. Whenever I'm txting, and I type in a close quotation (I hit the Sym and K key), it shows a "s instead of just " Does anyone know why it is adding the letter s? I can't figure that out. Is anyone else having the problem?

Also, does anyone notice that the phone takes longer to load or end applications like Mobile Email (or even just power on/off)?
When the phone was new, it used to be really fast. But now, it takes quite some more time (still just a few seconds total though) to either power on, power off, or connect or disconnect to applications like Mobile Email.

Thanks!

With my enV, I hit the symbol button then K and the quotations starts. I've never had a problem with my phone. As for taking longer to load on certain applications, maybe your internal memory is getting full and you've got to erase something. Other than that, Again, I have no idea...it's never happened to me before. Sorry. Hope this helps you out somewhat.

Hey carfanatic! Good to hear from you again. Yeah I'm not sure what this could be. Actually let me clarify the problem and after experimenting, it happens with more letters too:

when I'm typing a txt, and I want to insert a symbol, it places a letter AFTER the cursor. For example, if I'm going to say: "hi", it would appear like this after just typing the quotation mark (the | represents the cursor):
"|s
If I try to type a star, it would appear like this:
*|***
If I was trying to type the equals sign, it would be:
=|s
If I wanted to type a bracket, it would appear as this:
}|e

This only happens for these four only. Nothing else. So I can't figure out what the problem is.

Thanks

I just did the same tests w/ my enV and the cursor was normal meaning it said hi then the cursor. maybe it's a defect of your phone. Try taking it into your local verizon tech support, showing them exactly the problem, and see if it's maybe a defect of your phone because honestly I'm not sure what else i could be. DO all of your other letters and numbers type out correctly? Hope this is helpful. I'm trying to think of everything I can think of here. I mean it couldn't be anything in your settings. Is everything else fine with your enV?

Ok check to see if your phone is set to word....it will try to predict txt in that format...so if you use qwerty all the time set it to abc and that will solve your problem and save 😁 the day..lol 🤤

Uh, i think he's talking about the inside screen w/ the keyboard aand that doesn't haev ABC mode on it obviouslys cause its a full qwerty keyboard. It that were the issue for the front and yes i could be missing something here, just see if all the other keys are working properly. If they are, then I'd still suggest bringing it into Tech Support and showing them the problem.

Ok ok it's all good sfdtim. I'm not calling you a liar here. I'm just saying. And i figured it would be only for the outside screen. I mean what would be the point for the inside screen if it's a full qwerty keyboard if you catch my drift. The outside keypad yes I can see you toggling b/w ABC, T9 etc, but not on the inside screen since you've obvioulsy got all the keys and numbers all nicely and neatly layed out for you there. lol. 🙂 😁 😲

Hey thanks for your replies. Yeah it's on the inside keyboard. I didn't know that you could program the inside keys to do "word." I thought it was only abc. But perhaps I will take it in to Tech Support. The strange thing is this problem ONLY occurs on four keys. All others work fine. So I don't get it really. My S/W is version 2 also, so I don't know if they'd just rewrite it (or give me a new handset?).

But either way, I'll take it in - it's just annoying when it happens.

Thanks for your replies!

Hey but one question;
if they decide to give me a warranty replacement phone, then what about the games/apps that are on my phone now? Will I simply lose them all or can they transfer it to the new handset (if they do the replacement)?

Thanks in advance!

Trust me i just tried to do the OTher mode w/ my keyboard and it doens't work . i belive it's got to be w/ just the outisde keypad which would make sense...why would you need that option for a full qwerty keyboard it just doesn't make sense. And yeah they should credit you back the money. Just take the phone into tech support, show them the problem. Hopefull your next phone will be fine cause honestly the enV doesn't have many problems w/ it thankfully. It sounds like it is probably a manufacters defect or something. Hope all goes well.

I have the same issue. . .but a little different:

when I hit this key combination on the inside keypad Symbol>4 (to give me the $ character) it adds this extra text automatically after the symbol: $215

I have Software Version 1, other than that, I know it does one other weird character thing. . .but I can't remember what it is. I had just chalked it up to Quick Text or something. Anyone else out there experience this?

I have version 2 software version and just tried the symbols thing on my keyboard and you're right it does happen. It's a little weird but it doesn't take too much time to delete this. I think it's trying to do predictive text for numbers that you may have used in the past that's all.

i can name three specific things when mine does this too. it's so annoying!

one of them is parentheses. i will type this: ( but it will automatically do this: (((katie))), which funny enough, used to be my signature, but i have no idea why it would have saved that.

the second one is whenever i do a $ sign, it automatically fills it in.

the third is the quotation marks, but its with the letter i instead of s. for example: "i

i know that didn't help, but if anybody has figured anything out, i would sure like to know!

nevermind. whoever said because it was on word mode was right, although it really shouldn't have any effect on the internal screen, it definitely does. 😳

Not entirely true. I recently got a replacement enV, and the CS rep told me that I could download NEW games (different ones) but they had to be equivalent in $ value. 👀
I replaced $50 in games that I was bored with on my old enV with brand new games on my new enV. Then I called CS and they gave me the $50 credit for my new games. 😎
So you can replace your games with new ones or the same old ones, no problem either way. 😁

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!!

Well not exactly the same, but almost the same issue.
I dont know why it does it, but I noticed it when I tried to do open parenthesis, it adds -3)

When you posted the list I started going thru it and I found I have the same problem with:

# it adds s?
( it adds -3)
= it adds '(

now that I know Im not the only 1, I think Im going to go verizon and see what they say. If anyone figures it out, please post something!

This has been figured out. ALL enV's do this. It's just the phone's way of "T-9" style predictive text for "Symbols".
If you don't want your phone to do this. You can't really fix it permanently. But there is a temporary fix. 🙂
Using BitPim, use the "filesystem" tab and delete the saved T-9 "User" dictionary. (called "t9udb_eng.dat" (found in the folder "t9udb") - The last folder of the filesystem.
Once you delete this file, for the first few texts, you will not have strange symbol sequences showing up when you text. But they will show up again if you type another symbol combination in a text message. Just like T-9 text is saved, so are some symbol sequences. 👀 Once you type another text using symbols, the T-9 dictiona...

Hey Thanks for the info Ashaneen,
do you know if doing the temporary fix will disable the outside T9 as well? I prefer having T9 on the outside, but do not want it on the inside screen. I'm not sure if that's possible though. Hopefully this is just a bug that they'll fix in the next F/W release. (Also have you heard anything regarding a version 3 F/W?)

Thanks!

Well, this actually just "clears" the learned words (or Symbols) in the dictionary, you can still use T-9, it's just that your phone no longer remembers your OLD T-9 entries. It will build the new T-9 dictionary once you use it again. 🙂
