According to the LG accessories web site, CE500, CU320 and CU500 use the same USB cable:

What do you have under Menu -> Settings -> Connection -> USB Connection Mode?

It should say "Mass Storage". If it does, make sure you first connect the phone to the cable, then the cable to the computer. If you still don't get the New Hardware Wizard (as shown in the manual, page 35, and which you should cancel), then something is wrong.

Assuming this is some version of Windows, did you try rebooting before connecting the phone to the computer?

First disconnect the cable from the PC, and try rebooting it.

If that doesn't help, then try the following:

  1. Disconnect the cable from the PC

  2. open Control Panel -> System

  3. Click on the Hardware tab

  4. Click on the Device Manager button

  5. Find the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and right click on it

  6. Select "Scan for hardware changes"

thequick135,

Were you able to get the usb cable to work? I'm having the same problem and I even downloaded all the LG drivers I could find. My computer detects that a usb cord is connected, but it doesn't detect the phone as mass storage. I'm wondering if it is because I got a cheap usb cord off ebay. I'm thinking of buying the official usb cord of ebay but right now, I'm fine just sticking the transflash card in the adapter and add/dropping stuff from my computer to my memory card reader.

I have a v3i as well and the computer detects it as it should when it is connected. So, because of that, I'm sure it i...

Do you have a MicroSD card in the phone? Without it, you won't get the PC to recognize it as a mass storage device.

What do you mean by "the phone charges"? If the phone actually shows that it is charging the battery, then you have the wrong cable.

If you just meant that the phone is detecting the connection, then the only other thing besides having a bad cable is the possibility that your Windows install is somehow broken. Have you tried it on different computers? If you don't have access to another computer, you may be able to get a live CD with Ubuntu of Knoppix on it, and check to see if the phone is recognized under Linux:
