Insurance - Yay or Nay?

I declined the insurance for my LG VX8300 phone (through VZW) and am in the middle of my 15-day trial period. I am now reconsidering my decision and think that paying the extra $5.99 per month may be more to my benefit. What are your thoughts on the insurance that is offered? Would it be wise to take it? And should I do so, would I be able to cancel it at anytime or is it permanent?

Nah.

Put it in a case and treat it well...It'll last a good while.

I used to have it, but I gave up. here's why:

1) You're paying way too much. Sometimes you could pay almost the price of a new phone. It's just too expensive.

2) When you need them, it's a big hassle. First, there is always a deductible, usually $50 you have to pay from your pocket. Second, they don't guarantee the replacement to be the exact same model, only a similar model, which is also subject to availability. And then, you usually get a refurbished, not a brand new phone.

So IMO, you pay more than what you get. Not worth it IMHO.

Just to piggyback a little bit on the other replies to this post. I don't think it is worth it either. It will cost $6 a month and then add $50 for the deductible if it does get lost or stolen. So, figure you had it nine months and then something happens. You have paid $54 in insurance and then $50 for the deductible for a total of $104. If you went to Ebay or craigslist, you can probably find the same phone for cheaper. Often on craigslist, people are selling because they switched providers. Just as a safety precaution, it may be wise to buy from someone who has the original box and manual. As long as it says Verizon on the phone, you are fine. And, if possible, buy locally so you can try it out first.
