Two questions:
1. Does this phone light up on the sides like the 8100 does? If not, does it light up at all when the phone rings?

2. Is there a way to keep the front display on? I have it set at 30 seconds, but after 30 it just goes completely dark like the phone isnt even on. Is there a way for it to just be dim and show the time or something like on the 6100 instead of it going blank?

Question 1).
The 8300 does LIGHT UP when the phone rings (fortunately not like the ostentatious X-Mas tree lights that the 8100 over-does, but), YES it lights up a bit more gracefully than the 8100.

Question 2).
I had the 6100 and got "used to" never having to press anything to see the time [shorter b...

So if you have a missed call n the phone has been sitting there, it wont show up? You have to press a button in order to see if you have a missed call?

That's right. But if you press any button except for the MP3's "previous" button it will show that you've missed call(s). And it will be the first thing you see when you open the flip AND there's an icon for missed calls in the status bar.
Not the best, but my last phone erased the missed call indicator with any button press so I was always losing information because I'd bump a button picking the phone up off the table!

There is a setting to "remind" you of a missed call or voice mail or txt msg. Something the 6100 didn't offfer.

Go to Tools & Settings, Sound Settings, Alert Sounds, and set there to remind you any missed call or message.

This is a great feature. Which was copied from the Motorolas phones (I think).

I hate that the outside display goes off as soon as you open flip. I had the 6100 too and miss this feature. Does anyone know if this might be fixed in a future software update? Maybe if we send a message to Verizon they might consider it.

It bothered me at first, but the phone was so sweet in sooo many other areas, she won me over (I too had the 6100 and missed that feature a lot at first). Press any of the 6 [or 7 buttons if you count the rocker as two] and you'll see the Time or a Missed Call etc [and save on battery life... tryin' to view it as a positive in some lame way]
