BitPim Warning as 8300 phone death results

Anxious to play with the 8300 as I did the 7000, I filed down my USB cable and connected it to BitPIM. So far so good, phone recognized (a little downward pressure needed as the cable filing wasn't perfect.) I was able to copy pics/music/rings. At some point I filled up the phone with junk. I start to erase a lot of stuff both via the phone and through BITpim and uh-oh, my memory on the phone still reads 100%. No matter how much I erase, it's stuck there. Now I can't get the computer to recognize the phone any more. I tried a reset (under security) and when it reboots, no changes occurred except it seems that my sound, theme and wallpaper preferences have been reset to factory. All my remaining data is still there. It sounds like th...

The 8300 is not compatible with the bipim, you filled down an old data cable, messed up your phone and have the nerve to take it back to verizon with a dumb look like you don't know what happened. very lame guy

Absolutely. First of all they will likely reflash it and do with it what they could do with anyone who returned their phone within the 15 days (It's in MINT condition - as far as I can tell 😉 ). 2nd, why do they get to charge me for something I already have by adding some plastic. I don't feel bad about that. I know I'm a dumbass for playing and messing it up. How else do we learn?

Congratulations on giving ArmySF a controlled and level-headed answer. He gave you a lovely beating and you didn't return it, but instead answered in honest humility.

Well done!

Why even use bitpim? You don't need it to put stuff on the 8300.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Put pix,videos,mp3s on your microSD thru a card reader and then to the phone, very fast and easy. As for ringtones, just e-mail them to your phone, just remember to change the file extension to .mid before e-mailing or the sound quality will suck. Use Audacity to chnage the mp3 length and settings.

Actually, you could've used QPST...that works too. Verizon actually has been selling the music essentials kit for the 8300, it comes with a data cable. It still wouldn't have saved you from frying your phone but at least you would've had a cable that actually fits. How else do you learn though....gotta do some experimentation....at least you know.

Only the 6000/6100/8100 cables will work, i have a 6000 cable i have been using through out all my phones and i just filed down the ridges and it works with my 8300 no problem.

When messing with file structure, you should always back it up first. But since you didnt and you messed up the file structure, then just take it back to VZ and act dumb. They will reflash it or just give you a refurb. Course if you within the 15 days then they should give youa new one.

Dont feel bad, many people do it but just dont say much about it. I did it with my 6000 back in the day, fried the ****er and took it back. They gave me a refurb no big deal.
