LG 8300 vs E815

MotoLuvr

Jun 8, 2006, 9:47 AM
I had both the E815 and the LG 8300 with me on a road trip of 300 miles here in Minnesota. The signal strength of the E815 was significantly greater than that of the 8300 80% of the time. So, if you're looking for reception, the E815 is the way to go. Period

Oh, and by the way. I had left a low "Review" rating on this phone so someone must've taken offense and had it deleted. Therefore I will be leaving another review of it shortly -- excuse me -- ahem - I mean my friend will be leaving a review of it shortly from his computer. And then , I know of a couple of people that have poor reception with this phone ...

I have also had both, and I live in a very weak signal area. The e815 would drop calls ALL THE TIME and the new flash UI is now way better than moto's UI. The e815 might have shown more bars, but it would still drop calls all the time. Its not about the bars, its about being able to make and recieve clear calls. If a phone consistently showed 0 zero bars all the time, but could make and recieve all its calls you would use it right? Yes, this phone might SHOW fewer bars, but it locks onto a signal better than any phone I have used.

He just loves Motorola! I have no preference in phones. I have tried both phones and Motoluvr is yet to understand they both use different UI's. The reception is comparable on both phones.

I also have both phones. I went through 7 815s and now I am on my 2nd 8300.

Pros of the E815
Reception is a little better.
Earpiece is a decent volume.

Cons of the E815
Text messaging is awful, the phone freezes and restarts every 20 messages
Huge and bulky
Weighs a ton

Pros of the LG VX8300
Text messaging is great, no problems.
Nice Flash UI
Nice size
Mobile web browser is quicker and better
VCast Music
Ability to play MP3s as well as WMAs

Cons of 8300
Earpiece is a little low, noticeable in high noise environments
Reception is bad if you are in a fringe area, which is typical for a LG phone

Good fair review Willy. If I were a text messenger I might not like the E815 so much. But I only send/receive about 6 messages/month. And I like the bigger size of it. Easier for me to hold onto. That's why I don't like the RAZR. Too easy to drop imho. Anyway Willy, good review without the defensive negativism. 🙂

I send about 2500 texts a month. Plus i can't stand red bars so I rotate between my 815 and 8300. The 8300 has blue bars as an option.

finally someone makes sence! i'm sick of people saying the 8300 has bad service because it shows less bars. first of all it has less bars anyways and second it really doesnt matter as long as it works and is clear; which it is. THANK YOU.

just because it may not show as many bars as the e815 does not mean the reception is poor. did you actually compare RF levels? I doubt it .. so stop acting like a 12 year old and leaving BS comments and reviews you cant back up.

Sad is the "person" that somehow conned the website regulators in to deleting a review of a phone that I tried and disliked. Now 2 or 3 of my friends will have their say. I told them to wait a few days/weeks though so as to not be obvious.

Blah blah blah. I do you a favor by recognizing your existence. MORe-ON this subject later. I have to get ready for an early round of golf while you have to get ready to go wash dishes at Hooters. Can't wait to see what my buddies say about the 8300. I know one of them was having trouble with earpiece volume.

Eleven people ( so far ) have given it less than 4 stars. I think they should ALL BE BANNED!!!

Here's my suggestion:

0 to 2 stars ----- banned for life.

2.5 to 3.5 stars -- banned for 3 months.

MotoLuvr,

All I keep hearing from you is how bad the RF is on this phone well you are wrong. I've had the Motorola E815 and both the LG8100 and 8300, Both the 8100 and 8300 use the VZW interface which only shows 4 bars for full signal. On the other hand the E815 shows higher bars due to the fact its using motorola's UI. The reception between these phones is very comparable.

I know about the 4 vs 5 bars. What I'm talking about here is a 2 to 3 bar difference 80% of the time.

my wife has my 815 right now. I was trying to talk to her yesterday when she was at my house and dropped the call twice. When i tried to call her back it wouldn't ring through just kept going straight to voicemail. My razr does the same crap eventhough both phones show 1-2 bars. My 8100 would show 0-1 bars and never drop a call at my house or have problems receiving incoming calls and pick up evdo, which the motos drop as soon as i send a pix or go to vcast. My wife had my old lg8000 and I bought her a 815 because it was supposed to be the best phone for reception according to all the moto fanboys but never worked as well as my 8000 or my 8100. Then I was dumb enough to try the razr out about a month ago, I can't waite to get my 8300 on frid...

Wow someone who shares a "love" for his RAZR. My RAZR does the same thing. I'll be sitting with 5 bars on the display and all of a sudden the voice mail indicator beeps. Never rang.
The only thing I like about the phone is the sound quality when using the handset. Being in a state where I must use a headset in the car, I am temporarily using that p...

It's people like you that make looking at the reviews here slanted (unfairly) one way or another. Since I have never used either an LG or Motorola phone I couldn't care less which way you feel but if you're going to post a review - whether it be positive or negative - you should ensure that you have given it a fair test. I am on the verge of ordering a couple LG 8300s and for sure I will make my own tests - but won't report anything until I least have it a week or more. I doubt seriously that you gave the 8300 more than a day or so - which is fine - that is your prerogative - but if your only intent (and that of your friends) is to bring down the rating on this phone because (for whatever reason) you love Motorola then you must have a pretty...

If, if, if. That's all you can say and all you know cuz you don't know the facts. If you had any brains you'd be upset that some loser had a fair evaluation deleted. ( temporarily ). End of story.

The only loser here is you! I don't usually like to wind up in these type of spats but I do believe in fair evaluations. You've had your say here - now take your stupid 815 and go back to the Motorola site so that we can discuss this phone with intelligent conversation (whether it be positive or negative opinions).

By the way, don't stutter when you write and learn how to spell cause.

Bye (and good riddance)

You don't want fair evaluations. If you did you'd be outraged that a negative review was deleted.

And it's neither cuz nor cause. Technically it'd be "because". That is, of course, if one were concerned with grammar or spelling on a site like this.

I have had the E815 for one week now and after reading so many reviews, I would like to make an unbiased, simple review of my experience with this phone, so please be nice as I have no allegiance to any phone manufacturer.

Cons:
-Heavy and chunky
-Awkward in my hand
-Can't flip open with one hand w/o hanging up on the caller
-Menu hard to navigate
-Very cryptic UI
-Hard time understanding people talking to me through the earpiece, voices are garbled
-hard to use the keypad with one hand
-Contrary to what I have been reading, MY battery life is terrible, have needed to charge the phone everyday
-the charger prong plug comes out too easily, think I'm charging the phone when I'm really not
-Several dropped calls for no reason
-Unl...

There is no comparison. The 815 is just a spray painted 710.

Any LG product is going to work better than a Moto.

Enjoy it and please report here as to your true findings, positive or negative.

I upgraded our two Verizon phones about one week ago. I was also between these two phones and the Razr v3m.

What won it for the 8300 was:

- Solid build quality - gives me confidence, less worry if one drops it, long lasting. It's simply well put together.
- Ease of use - everything is where it should be and the learning curve is small. Even my gadget-challenged wife has picked it up with ease. She also loves the looks, which encourages her to play with it.
- Phone function - call sound quality is excellent, good phone signal, mp3s sound very good (I'm a Mac guy so I switched the phone from wma to mp3; don't think one can do that on the Razr v3m), battery life is great.
- The way it feels in my hand. It just fits and I can do everyt...
