Verizon Rep: Emailed Ringtones won't work on 8300!

I'm frustrated and am about to go back to my VX8000 until someone figures out how to crack the ringtone code! 👿 LOL! I cut the mp3 down to 26 secs, emailed to my VX8000 and i was able to play the sound, but wasn't able to download it to my phone because my phone memory was full. So then I activated my 8300 and tried to send the same file through e-mail to the 8300, guess what...NO SOUND!! HELP!!! Whatever will I do?!? The preloaded ringtones are killing me and i refuse to feed the machine and by a ringtone for $1.99...lol. 🙄

I have been using pix place. You can make WAV files as your ringtone on the 8300.

You could also consider using a transflash card.

The quality is decent.

I don't know why everyone is having so many problems doing this! I take any MP3 I have, cut it down to about 30 seconds, send it as an attachment in an e-mail to my10digitcell#@vzwpix.com, my phone recieves it, I open it, sound plays, I then choose options, then "set as ringtone". I then go to Settings & Tools, My Ringtones, and there it is! I can then set it to a contact or as my default ringtone. Simple and works every time.

I e-mailed an mp3 (266kb) to my 8300.I sent it by my10digitcell#@vzwpix.com. When I received it, the phone listed it as a .mid file..I set the file as a ringtone, but when I tried to play it or when I called my cell#, the phone "reboots" itself. Any ideals?

It works but the mp3 turns into real bad sound quality after you e-mail it to the phone. What gives?

If you are using a program to crop your mp3's before sending them make sure your bitrate is at least 128000 or 128... I put mine at 160 and sounds awesome....

I just got the 8300 on Monday and I was able to email myself 3 ringtones that sound mad good. Are you sure they are .mp3 files?

Good question, people having problems may want to use a converter and convert their MP3's just to make sure that they are indeed really MP3's, because sending .qcp or any other file type WILL NOT work.

but if you get a ringtone message and save the sound does it go to the ringtone folder or the sounds folder, because i also tried sending me a message that played on my 8100 but the sound didnt play on the 8300.

After you open the message and hear the sound and hit the right soft key for options, one option is "save as ringtone", not "save sound". It will then put it in your ringtones.

i use bitpim to cut the music down to about 30 seconds, and then just rename the mp3 extension to .mid, but ive treid only sending one rintone that i have create that worked on the 8100 and the razr, and it didnt play on the 8300, so i was wondering if leaving the file extension to .mp3 would work, or maybe just have to limit it 25 seconds. thx for the reply

It has to be .mp3, no other extension will work. And it has to be a true .mp3, you will have to convert it if it's not. Just changing the extention will not work.

I think i may have found a way. I use Sony ACID xpress. I cut to a 30 second tone and jacked up the volume to +2.9,then saved it as a mp3 at 64 kbps(near FM quality). Once on your computer, change the file extension to .mid and then e-mail to your phone. Sound quality is pretty good. Let me know if it works.

I had a data cable and software for my 8000 that i use to cut mp3s.m There are several mp3 cutting softwares out there. You have to make sure that when u cut the mp3, it is less than 300kb or else u'll enter bad sound quality zone....

Another LG glitch. I was on the verge of getting this phone, but there are just too many things wrong with it. I will wait for the Samsung SCH-A915 or the Samsung SCH-A990. My Moto V325 will do for now, better than the LG VX-8300.

You know Paul, you are not as mellow as you name implies in fact you are a passive agressive poster.
You keep bashing the phone without even owning it and then continue to make negative comments about the phone, the manufacturer and how much better other companies are.
The "glitches" you keep finding are typical of every phone that gets issued. We run them through their paces and find things out. We are the un-official consumer reports team. We find it, and we get it fixed.
For you to continue to post here with your "please help me attitude" and then 3 post later you bash the phone will get you no help or sympathy from this group.
I have owned Motorola phones and LG phones and each was fraught with minor issues that were corrected.

Its not my phone ... I got a MAILER_DAEMON error on my email account... the phone is GREAT ... I recommend it... I had a samsung a930 and changed it for this phone.... I think I accidentally sent the entire mp3 and it was too large for my phone to receive in a message

All you do is bash this phone. If you hate it so much, stay out of the forum. 🙂
