Cingular w810 mp3 Ringtones
Can i use the MP3's i put on my phone from my computer as ringtones? I try and it won't let me select them, seemingly trying to make me buy them off the internet, which i don't want to do. Is there some trick or hack i can use? The pre-loaded ringtones suck, and the Phonescoop vid. review said i could
I also noticed some differences between the phonescoop video menu, and the menu i have on my Cingular branded one...is that because its a cingular, or are there some settings i need to fiddle with?
thanks

The Cingular Branded version of this phone cannot use MP3s as ringtones. You can probably take the phone to a local dealer to have it unbranded (the carriers WILL NOT do this). This would essential install Sony Ericsson's original Operating System without the Cingular modifications.
Beware that by unbranding the phone you will lose many of the "Cingular Only" options (specific menus, features, etc. such as the Cingular music and Mobile email menu items).

do you know what kind of place would unbrand a phone? A bestbuy or radio shack? or something else?

Hey you can go get your phone flashed
if you read the reviews and scroll down it will tell you the website to flash it at and it costs 12 bucks but i heard its worth it
i really want this phone lol 😎

Yes just cut your mp3 down to about a 30 second clip and you can use it as a ringtone.

Can you do that even if you get the phone from Cingular? Because i heard that you couldn't.

Wow. you'd think cingular would take something cool and free like that away. Maybe I underestimated them.

no no, the fact that you can't just use any song in its full form, like you can in Eric Lin's review means that cingular neutered a good feature and they want you to buy their own ringtones....yes you can cut it down but thats still a hassle, so damn you cingular, damn you!!
