iTunes or Motorola music player???

MarZo1723

I dont know what you get, either iTunes or Motorolas digital music player. I thinks its wierd that they would put two different music players in the same phone and I heard that Motorolas digital music player only holds 50 songs compared to iTunes that holds 100 songs. If anyone has any info on this let me know and also when do you think the price will drop?? Thanks!

I have no clue, I think it is so idiotic, that there would be 2 types of phones, because itunes is a big selling point. So who knows!!!!!

iTunes is exclusive to Cingular as far as it being on phones. Therefore, Motorola must put their own music player on any phone that is not Cingular branded.

I understand that, I just bought my V3i, and I should have by Friday, and I made sure that the one I am getting has itunes, and they are also going the configure media net, and mms for me. The main problem is it is completly random which has itunes and which one does not, so I am not sure it has much 2 do with Cingular.

How are you getting one with iTunes now??? The only ones with iTunes are supposed to be for Cingular and not released until sometime around March.

How much are you paying for it?

Yeah thats pretty stupid that they would put two different things in the same phone. If you check the hellomoto website and go under the UK they have this phone up there and it says that it doesn't have iTunes, it just says that it has Motorolas digital music player. I think the states will just get iTunes (Cingular)

I am thinking that it just depends on the luck of the draw. I think that I got a slight advantage with getting my phone from simoncells, because of buying from them in the past, they are making surre the one I receive has itunes, I will find out for sure on Friday when I receive the phone.

that is almost correct. itunes is a cingular exclusive but only in america. i got my first rokr directly from moto and it was a euro version with 900/1800/1900mhz bandwidths and it came with itunes but had a 50 song instead of 100 song cap. i know for a fact that itunes is cingular exclusive in america but overseas i think vadafone uses itunes also.

Yeash, please keep us informed if the phone actually has the itunes software. I'm pretty convinced that none of the phones that are shipping contain the itunes software. There is a big misconception that V3i stands for itunes.

the one headed for cingular and vodafone most definately will. now if you buy directly from moto you'll have to specify if you want i tunes or not.

trust me, the DAP and SCREEN3 is much better than itunes. Not sure why you would want to use something that puts limits on what you can do with music you paid for. You can't even share songs phone to phone with itunes music. Then theres the 100 song limit!

from rumor i have heard it will have more than 100 song. i know the d&g gold version palys 110 songs 🙄 (as if thats a huge difference). but i have heard 1000 songs đŸ˜ŗ 😲 i can't remember exactly where i read it but if i find it i will provide a link. if its anything lower tham 300-500 then every nokia mp3 phone from here foward will stomp them. espically the nokia 8801 nokia's site said 1000-3000 songs or something like that. 😎

Here's where I think the sticking point is: The phone comes with a 512 MB minSD card, which can actually hold about 250 songs at top storage, depending on how long the songs are and what compression ratio. MiniSD cards come in sizes up to 2GB, and the idea is that you could hold up to 1,000 songs on that much space. In practice, though, the SLVR and V3i have self-imposed 100 song limits on them. I'm not sure why they've done this, because it would be much better to able to store more songs with the excess memory.

The 50 or 100 song limit comes from Apple via iTunes because they dont want too much competition for their iPods. Its a deal they struck with Motorola (and Cingular, I think).
So I assume those V3i s WITHOUT iTunes wont have this limit. Can anyone confirm this?

How do you like the Motorola Media Player (aka the non-iTunes player)?

I have a dell MP3 player, so I don't gain anything by having a phone with iTunes, I just want a phone that can conveniently play my mp3's and not limit the number of songs.

Thanks.

I would say the Motorola Media Player is "ok" but not great. There are 2 specific problems. One is that it only plays music in the MP3 format, so you cannot download music off of systems that have another format (e.g., WMA) that is locked. Also, the transfer rate from the computer to the phone is awfully slow. Beyond that, the player looks a fair amount like iTunes in the sense of being able to create playlists and organize music.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Itunes music player and the non-Itunes?

I bought a V3i from Wireless Experts (Ebay) and they mistakenly sent me the one without Iunes. They have both versions available. My son doesn't want to exchange it, since he already put all his stuff on the phone. He's perfectly happy with the Motorola music player. What's he missing without Itunes?

I'm trying to decide if I should let them go ahead and exchange it for me. I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle. They're already sending me a few free accessories for my trouble. They don't usually exchange an item that's been used, but they said they would gladly do it in this case.

I'd appreciate info about Itunes vs. "non-Itunes."

It's as much of a marketing gimmic as anything else. Essentially, by including iTunes on the phone, Motorola and Apple are cross-marketing one another.

Because V3i has iTunes as its base program, cell phone users who own iPods won't have to change their software in order to downloand music from their computer to their phone, providing an extra incentive for users who have a V3i or a SLVR to purchase an Apple iPod when and if they ever enter the market for a full-fledged personal music player.

This could also explain why the phone has a self-imposed 100 song limit, which would push more people towards buying iPods once they've "experienced" what Apple has to offer.

From my days as a consultative sales associate for Ultimate Elec...

My sons already have the new generation Video Ipods. I'm just wondering if there's a difference in the features of the two types of music players.

My sons don't have any trouble moving their music from the Itunes on their computers to their cell phones right now. I'm just wondering if the son who was supposed to have the V3i with Itunes is missing out on any great features by having the "non-Itunes" v3i.

He still has the option of exchanging it. He's leaning toward just keeping what he has, since the only difference we're aware of at this point is the ability to load songs more quickly (and with more detailed categories) with the Itunes phones. At this point, he's not sure he wants to send his back, and then wait for the replac...
